Brace yourself. I think there is going to be news about FEMA
HOnore on Williams

I did not quite grasp what he was saying earlier about all the military stuff being evacuated.

what he was saying is the fed govt is a joke right now in prep

all the resources fled the hurriacnae to GA.

There has been no addressing this in prep. There are no federal resources allocated .

They are hours away - with no prepositioning

planes have left /trucks have left /helicopters have left /ships have left/ from the installations in three states

the three states have the biggest of these resources in the nation

that is why the you stay don't call aint noone home is going out. None of us have heard anything that obnoxious this is why

the first 36 hrs are critical to deal with what is gonna happen ===stuff has to be ready not sitting states away

if there is anyone on this thread that has not left pls do

if anyone knows people that are in those areas pls advise of this new info explain that this is going to be different for the reasons he outlined above - unless tomm this changes

for you youngin Honore is a hero:

Katrina was a bumbling mess a total mess people were trapped for days and days

and days no one knew what to do

Finally our hero came in - Bush appointed a pal who raises horses to head FEMA>

Gen Honore WAS PISSED when he was finally called into NO

within hours the skies were filled with helicopters ==big ugly high water rescue trucks were crawling all over the city

he is on video screaming at national guard to put there damn guns down now and start loading survivors on those ugly trucks

weapons went down

the coast guard resucue helipcopters went 24/7 for days

caravans of large busses showed up in like 24 hours to get all the people trapped in superdome for like 4 days living with no food

toilets that were overflowed

dead people lied in the streets rotting for days

he is a hero

he knows his stuff

he was different tonight he had notes tonight he did not earlier

apparently he had been checking up on what the heck ready meant

by the numbers

he was not happy

it was actually like he was talking directly to washington

giving them details of what they had BETTER do tomm

on national tv he called for an investigation into the disaster called PR

he knows --

it is not only the magnitude of Florence itself

it is how woefully horrible this is now

his final deal if you do not start to get serious resources TOMM in place we are in big trouble

he demanded the national guard nationally to be mobilized

they are going to need like 25,000 people ready to move (that is not a typo)

I hope they play him over and over and over tonight

angry if you don't mind

Ventusky's latest forecast shows Florence initially coming close to shore at Cape Lookout on 14th, running down the coast but still out at sea on 15th and 16th before coming ashore at Charleston on 17th.

Weather Forecast Maps

Windy has much the same, except initial approach is at Wilmington on 14th, running down the coast off shore and then coming ashore on 16th between Charleston and Savannah.

Windy as forecasted

The spaghetti models generally still show an approach or direct landfall near Wilmington, though some individual projections do show Florence running SW along the coast after that.

Parts of NC are facing 45 inches of rain, according to the European model.

Forecasters said parts of North Carolina could get 20 inches of rain, if not more, with as much as 10 inches elsewhere in the state and in Virginia, parts of Maryland and Washington, DC.

One trusted computer model, the European simulation, predicted more than 45 inches in parts of North Carolina.

A year ago, people would have laughed off such a forecast, but the European model was accurate in predicting 60 inches for Hurricane Harvey in the Houston area, so 'you start to wonder what these models know that we don't,' University of Miami hurricane expert Brian McNoldy said.

Now I want all fellow americans to feel very fine today

fema has provided one massive base with 34 generators that is not a typo missing a bunch of zeros sorry

800 000 water do the math

17 top fema positions have never been filled

1200 cots - it is with regret that is not a typo

i feel so much better for each of you

they should not even release such insulting data while everyone is carrying on about how ready everyone is

feeling queasy again bye

First, Cariis, I wanna thank you for all the information you provide here (and on other threads). I love your posts! This one is disturbing though, I mean is this a joke!?!? Guess it's every man for himself.

Myself, I am stressing because a friend of mine lives on the Neuse River, Oriental, North Carolina. I had texted him two days ago and asked him if he was going to get out of Dodge---expecting a yes answer. He just said he had a place to go ten miles inland that is a forty foot elevation. Somehow, this is not relieving my anxiety about what could happen to him. If it were me, I would have already gone!!! Will be saying my prayers. It's all I can do.

I watched TWC and they are also hinting of this same approach as outlined in Windy. Myrtle Beach will be affected too.

Hilton Head Island and Charleston, where it expects to make landfall, is just to the north of where it comes ashore near Savannah. The right side of any hurricane is the worse side.

I thought it was odd earlier in the week when the Governor of SC ordered a a mandatory evacuation of everyone on the coast, even as far south as HHI. Good thing he did otherwise there would be a mass evacuation.

I wonder if Georgia is going to call a State of Emergency today.

I was horrified to see that it may pivot south into Georgia...my home state.

Wherever it strikes I pray everyone is safe.

All of the governors in all possible affected states say they have been in constant contact with Fema and they are already on the ground in each of these states. They said they are very pleased with the Fema response.

FEMA began transporting meals, water and cots to Fort Bragg (North Carolina) over the weekend. “At this time FEMA has about 100 tractor trailers staged here and more are in-bound. FEMA will direct when and where they’ll go in order to put the supplies to the best use."

If Gen Honere says anything about pre/post emergency response concerning this, or any storm, it would behoove this nation, and the White House, to listen. The General is blunt, sometimes a bit bombastic, and usually spot on correct in what he says. I grew up in New Orleans with hurricanes and Nash Roberts (a famous local NBC affiliate WDSU weatherman who really got hurricane tracking), and like life long New Orleanans, the General "gets it" when it comes to Hurricanes and the Emergency Management they mandate both in the years before and the days after. Gen Honere is a force of nature, and it takes one to know one!

Hurricane Florence is now expected to slow down and turn south after making a roaring landfall along the East Coast, a forecast that could have dire consequences for South Carolina.

"Latest models show a ridge building over eastern U.S. slowing down Florence near our coast, stalling, then moving into South Carolina."

The slowdown could mean 20 inches of rain or more in some areas, along with an extended period of high winds that could take down trees and power lines.

"The NHC track has been adjusted southward ... and additional southward adjustment may be warranted in future advisories," the National Hurricane Center said Wednesday.

Speaking of the unusual forecast track, which shows a spin to the south along the South Carolina coast, a Weather Channel meteorologist said, "I've never seen anything like this."

Thanks JG for the link and for all the information you continue to provide.

I think Fema has greatly improved since Katrina. Instead of being reactive after the storm they have now become much more proactive.

It's great Fema is already in the staging mode giving out needed supplies BEFORE the storm even comes ashore.

interesting, and that last year with the Florida hurricane I-75 coming out of Florida was pretty red. I don't see much red here yet.Screenshot_20180912-085042_Maps.jpg

I just want to point out that if anyone has Flood (water) insurance and/or homeowners (wind) insurance, you'll need to (eventually) file a claim with FEMA in order to file a claim with the flood and/or homeowner's insurance. IThe insurance company will ask for a FEMA number. I think that's how it worked after Sandy. But you can file with your own insurance first, but you'll need to file with FEMA if you need any assistance (even if you have insurance).

Also, don't expect any FEMA help if you already have flood and/or homeowners insurance. Also, you cannot claim on your homeowners insurance that your home is flooded. You need actual flood insurance.

We had flood insurance and received nothing from FEMA but did receive money to start to rebuild the water damage to our home from our flood insurance company. Our homeowners insurance just paid for a roof tile that flew off and a fence that fell.

Also, it's good to have CONTENTS added to your flood insurance policy. We didn't and regretted it very much after Sandy. All of the furniture, electronics, appliances, clothing, etc. were not covered under the regular flood (just the home itself), so a lot of items we had to pay out of pocket to replace. :(

If your home is severly damaged, FEMA will offer rental assistance. TAKE IT! We didn't take it but after a few days working in the house without electricity and heat/a-c/ no working appliances, we wished we did take rental assistance but when we called back they wouldn't change any paperwork.
