They may be doing worse than that in about 6 hours. :(

watch this woman now. She is in Naples outside Marco Island on the mainland on the 11th floor or something:

Horrible sound. :( Naples is south of Estero and Ft Myers (Ft Myers is north of both), so this will be what Estero and then Fort Myers sounds like in a few more hours. Deafening, ugh.

This from within the eye wall is amazing.

Not that you can see much.

Palm Beach daughter sent me a final video of her back yard, says the wind has gotten significantly worse so no more video - they're lowering the last shutters over the patio. They still have power but she said surrounding neighborhoods are going dark and she expects to at some point.

She says her yard is full of debris and the roaring sound in the house is just crazy! Oh, and she said they're eating way too much food right now, probably from anxiety. Cue Dave Barry, lol.

I'll be leaving for the day in an hour but will try and keep an eye on things while I'm out. Thanks so much for all the links and updates - y'all are better than any news station!
:loveyou:

This hurts my heart. Miami Channel 6 just had a live report from the Tampa area. (Sorry no link). The reporter said he'd just seen a homeless man sitting on a bus bench with an umbrella, eating bread. Maybe has no ideas what is about to befall him. So sad. Praying.

I just want to cry.

I have to mute the sounds but ok to watch. Still heartbreaking. Sounds can send me into a panic attack Mach 90.

Deputies shot and wounded a burglar and arrested his accomplice at a Florida home as Hurricane Irma blew in.

Florida sheriff's deputies rescued a couple who tried to ride out Hurricane Irma on a small sailboat.

Some Miami Police officers remembered to pack an essential in their hurricane survival pack: Cuban coffee known as cafecito.

The department tweeted a picture showing a coffee maker atop a camp stove. It read: "As our officers ride out the storm, some have brought the (hashtag) Miami essentials to help them get through the night."

About 100 of America's top chefs who had gathered for their annual summit changed gears. They pivoted their planned Monday agenda on "heritage grains" and "how to cut food waste." Now, instead, the chefs will prepare a gourmet feast for Irma refugees and serve it at a church.

Thanks so much, Elley Mae, for posting this. Interesting stories.

The home being burglarized was caught by the homeowners on their surveillance system. They notified the police who caught the burglars at 3 a.m.

Glad the couple on the boat were rescued. But I want to say, 'Why in the heck were you out there in the first place?'

The 'Cuban Coffee' speaks for itself. Whatever it takes to keep the men/women in blue, alert and ready for what comes their way.

America's top chefs story has a special flair too.

Thanks again! It's so nice to read about the good that police or others are trying to accomplish, especially in the face of such calamity...

Oh gawd :cry::cry:

Anyone seen Henry today? We could do with his commentary.

Presumably he's been cut orf.
Hi Melmoth- all good in Charleston. Looks like it will be small shifts through out the next 24 hours as the storm wobbles back and forth along the coast.

I'm praying that it stays on land. That will be the best case scenario for Florida. If it drifts offshore, then the northern part of the state and southern GA will become more at risk than currently.

The current models are very much aligned although each has slight differences with east to west movements as well as slight differences in strength.

At this point, it is to be. Hoping all my friends here are safe and prepared. As well, hoping we have a long break before another hurricane thread is created. [emoji4]

Hi Henry. Good to know you're there. Your commentary and explanations are greatly appreciated.

Great link, thanks for sharing!

Checking in--thinking of all of you, and praying this onslaught of rotten weather is over soon, with as little damage as possible.
