There's a live press conference on all local networks right now regarding the Hollywood nursing home deaths.

The facility had power but the A/C system was not fully functional.

Hollywood PD has a search warrant for the property.

No arrests have been made at this time.
 
I live in Hollywood. Just got home it's a mess. That nursing home is basically on Hospital grounds and an old dump. We have a great Mayor newly elected I know him. Hollywood is just below FT Lauderdale with our fantastic broadwalk the best of the beaches with Margaritaville, I hear the music every night. Not last night.
This is sickening and we have soo many of these in town but many are in homes converted into small nursing homes. No excuse for what happened they could have been rolled in their beds right into the hospital. Excellent hospital.

Bad, really bad. I have my suspicions about this. If you get a chance look up nursing home deaths, Chalmette, Katrina.
 
We came home (near Orlando) yesterday. Took I-95 from South Carolina. Many, many power company trucks on the road heading south. As we drove through Georgia, hundreds of military vehicles heading South, many carrying heavy equipment.

One thing I noticed in Georgia was that exits off I-95 were blocked by military vehicles and police. No rest areas open--again, blocked by military and police. Stopped for gas and a burger after crossing the FL line--Wendy's and Burger King were drive through only. One gas station had no gas, the other across the street had gas for $2.99 gal. Beggars can't be choosers.

As as we entered Florida, no rest areas open until we got closer to Jacksonville but exits open.

Got home, no power of course, but our home is okay. We'd had a large tree from the lot behind us fall on our fence but friends cut it down and removed it and we're so thankful. We're in our late 60's. Our next door neighbor told us that huge tree literally exploded during Irma and burned all night long. Luckily the rest of the conservation area didn't catch fire too, just that tree.

We have wires down in our back yard and so do our neighbors. No idea when power will be restored. We take the dogs out on leashes due to not knowing whether or not the wires are live.

Right now we're chilling at my younger son's house about 7 miles down the road. He never lost power tho his pool screens blew out and a large tree is on his shed. It's just too hot for us to go home right now, mostly due to my health issues. I overheated this morning just from unpacking but an ice cold bath sure helped, lol. Hubby wants to stay here tonight but I hate to impose. We'll probably stay tho.
 
Update

Day 4 without power and not all of our apartment buildings are on the same power grid. What a design huh even though we are on the same block next to a working traffic light. Our Apartment association has been notified of the power discrepancy and was informed to call FPL which we did more than ten times already. Very uncomfortable with no A/C.DH and I got some buffalo wings at the 7-11 down the street.

I hate Florida.

Possible not enough employees to operate the full place? After a tornado in an area I grew up in many of us couldn't get to McDonald's where I worked. They did the same thing. Just a thought...

African train coming....invest 97 May be a tropical storm tonight but should curve North. Invest 96 is the one to watch.
As we experienced, it's way too early to predict.

LIVE OAK — Pam Poole head a loud on knock on the front door of her house Monday morning.

When her husband Jerry went to answer it, no one was there but he noticed a large pine tree leaning towards their home of 17 years.

They quickly got their granddaughters from the back room where they were sleeping.

Pam said a few minutes later the tree fell on the house that also had Pam’s mother, daughter and son-in-law staying in during Hurricane Irma.

“I get goose bumps when I tell the story,” Pam said. “We just had angels looking over us.”

Update:

Day 6 (Friday, September 15) with no power. It's not bad at night with the windows open and a cool breeze while falling asleep. Daytime is another story. I have seen several FPL trucks in the nearby area so maybe that is a good sign.

Tonight DH and I went out for Chinese take-out down the street on Swift Rd (terrific food) and spotted an FPL truck. Tried to get DH to pull over so I could ask the guys in the truck about our apartment but he said no. Thinks I just wanted to talk to the cute FPL dude. lol

Well, if there is no power between now and tomorrow I will have to bring the laptop to the library to get some work done and borrow their electricity.
 
And I am taking the lemon chicken slow, considering this heat and my stomach......it is cooling though especially on a bed of lettuce
 
At work my supervisor and her DH had to evacuate (they live on Siesta Key) - she was telling me how a power line went down in one of her friend's backyard and her friend has young children - must be a task to keep them away from the wire

Checking in. I'm okay. I evacuated to my relatives in South Carolina. Ended up getting a really bad ear infection so I was out of commission for the last few days. Thank you for checking up on all of us affected. Hopefully, we'll hear from the other 5 that haven't been accounted for. I just heard from one of my friends in key west who refused to evacuate. I'm happy he's okay and I plan on going down once people are allowed back to help him rebuild. Luckily, my mother and brother made it through the storm okay and the damage was minimal. A lot of my friends in key west and Miami weren't as lucky.
