Nate stands at 90 mph and 981 pressure. The storm has having some difficulty on the west side with dry air. It has tried to organize but fortunately the eye remains closed. It is moving so fast, that time is running out for it to intensify. Warnings and watches west of Morgan City have been cancelled, while all others have remained in place. There appears to be a slight jog West again in the models although consistent with previous model guidance.

Surge and rain will continue to be the issues from this storm. The storm is beginning to pound the coast.

New Orleans Clubs and Restaurants Close Ahead of Hurricane Nate
by Chelsea Bailey and Phil McCausland

Even before Hurricane Nate spun into Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, the impact of the storm had already knocked out much of the nightlife from the clubs and restaurants of New Orleans.

With a mandatory curfew in place, festivals were canceled Saturday, chefs closed their kitchens, and jazz clubs known for playing into the early hours of the morning shuttered their doors ahead of ahead of the storm.

The storm is expected to make landfall early Sunday morning as a Category 2 storm, dumping three to six inches of rain from the central Gulf Coast all the way up to the southern Appalachians, according to the National Weather Service...

I know there are members here who live in the Gulf and NOLA areas. Please be safe.

We are even getting strong winds here in Michigan. The next county over is getting thunderstorms and registered winds @ 40mph with gusts up to 50mph. Our winds must be getting close to that speed. At least all my walnuts should end up on the ground.

Thinking of you all who may be affected by Nate. Hope this goes through quickly and does not leave any horrible after-effects.

Six Things To Know About Hurricane Nate

Hurricane Nate made its second US landfall near Biloxi, Mississippi, shortly after midnight local time Sunday as a Category 1 hurricane. Just hours earlier, Nate had made its first US landfall near the mouth of the Mississippi River in southeast Louisiana.

Winds as fast as 89 mph were reported east of Venice, Louisiana, and 70 mph at Keesler Airforce Base in Mississippi.

By Sunday morning, a hurricane warning was in effect for coastal areas from the mouth of Pearl River on the Louisiana-Mississippi border eastward to the Alabama-Florida border.

Power was out for 7,000 people in Alabama, 4,400 customers in Mississippi and 3,600 in Florida's Panhandle region.

Nate could drop 3 to 6 inches of rain, with 10 inches possible in some areas, from the central Gulf Coast north across the Deep South, the eastern Tennessee Valley and the southern Appalachians through Monday. Flash flooding is a danger.

As the storm moves inland, it could mean more power outages, debris and flight delays.

Film footage from Biloxi showed flooded streets and highways.

and Casino in Biloxi, said he had kept a restaurant and bar open for his 300 guests and "they have been OK so far".

But he told local TV he hoped none of his guests tried to leave "because everything is flooded around us".

Mayor of nearby Gulfport, Billy Hewes, told the BBC the storm surge did not appear to be as high as feared and he thought the damage there would "be minimal".

But the head of emergency management in Mississippi warned of worsening conditions as Nate moved further inland.

In southern Alabama, the local power company said some 5,000 people were without power. Residents there had been urged to take precautions ahead of Nate's arrival.

A mandatory curfew was lifted in New Orleans as the threat to the city - devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 - was downgraded.

As Nate continues to weaken, a new tropical disturbance has formed in the Atlantic Ocean about 800 miles off the coast of the Azores.

Forecasters said there is a 70 percent chance the "well-defined" system will develop into a tropical cyclone in the next two to five days before conditions make formation less favorable.

Although the low-pressure system is not expected to move far over the next few days, it will begin to slowly shift southeast Thursday.

It has strengthened into Tropical Storm Ophelia Monday (Oct. 9) morning.

Ophelia's center was 860 miles west-southwest of the Azores. It is moving north-northeast at 5 mph, with sustained winds of 40 mph. The storm's current track poses no threat to land.

Orphelia is expected to turn northeast later Monday. Motion toward the east-northeast and east is expected to occur Monday night, and forecasters added that Orphelia will turn east-southeast Tuesday.

The storm is expected to experience "some strengthening" during the next 48 hours.
