How awesome is that!

Oh my gosh... Is that a double rainbow?

Omg I absolutely can't believe the call I just received. I just now found out that one street over from me flooded in the early morning hours, that the whole area in my neighborhood that lies along the river was flooded. We didn't have mandatory evacuations here, were told we'd get a call or door to door contact if we had to evacuate & would be given a couple hours notice - nothing. Omg.

Going down the street now to see the damage. Jesus.

If I absolutely had to go out today (i.e. an appointment), I would brave the cold, windy conditions, but my sweet little Beetle would prefer to stay snug-as-a-bug in the garage ;)

Listening to Mayor Alonzo speak now.

He needs to shut up. He's lying on National TV bc he looks stupid putting people in a school shelter only about a mile away from the ocean. He's talking disparaging remarks against Gov Christie bc Gov Christie pointed the finger at him. IMO he's a tool that looks like a fool. My aunt & uncle told me first hand what this guy said yesterday. Omg he needs to shut his face. IMO he's afraid of lawsuits coming his way.

I am still catching a few pages back. Just have a question. My neighbors are out clearing branches from their yard. AM I Lazy for not doing mine ? Or, just cautious of ground soaked large trees that "appear" to be ok ?

No way I am going out to clean up. It is still windy and cold. BBBBrrrrrrr.

I'm sleeping today:waitasec:

You are wise, indeed. One half-decent gust and a tree or branches could go down. It's not worth your life to be neat at this point!

Thoughts and prayers for the safety of utility workers who will be enduring the cold, wind, rain/snow as they restore power :please:

Indeed. And on that subject, when we have an outage and it's brutal out, I always offer water, coffee and hot chocolate and they are very grateful for it. Also a washroom is much appreciated. They have to work in some bad conditions and I feel for them.

i keep wondering about the wildlife in the north. I would imagine they are moving inland because of the flooding, snakes, rats etc. Everyone needs to be careful.

WOW ! 20 TO 25 foot waves on Lake Heron, Mi

WOW! I can just imagine! We used to have 2 houses in Connecticut. Years ago, the one on the beach was wiped out by waves like that and now the house across the street, my Aunt & Uncles....I fear that is going to go bye-bye because of this violent storm.

Stay safe everyone and batton down the hatches! Please get to safety if you can. This is so scary. Godspeed to all affected!

Power is back on in our Central PA neighborhood. It was out for around 14 hours. When I called it in, Penelec's message said 3-5 days! 20,000 Penelec customers still out in the area according to the TV.

I'm now debating what to keep and what to throw out from the refrigerator. . . .Hmmm. The stuff in the freezers is fine--even the ice cubes didn't melt. I'm thinking I may have the temp set slightly lower than necessary!

I haven't been able to reach my parents, but they are serious survivalists, living on a mountain w/ food aplenty and 3 generators.

We got out of school at noon yesterday due to wind gusts impacting our high-profile buses. No school today due to power outages and flooding. No word on tomorrow yet. . . .

Lower Manhattan transformers are exploding one after the other. Water pouring in to reporter's location. ConEd had hoped to avoid this, but no...will update as I hear it (on the link I posted above).

Just as an aside, I bet we see a huge jump in babies being born in just about 9 months from now...LOL...like happened with the great blackout in NYC a few decades ago. Liquor, cabin fever, and fear...yep, gonna have lots o' babies from this storm indeed.

Best-
Herding Cats

Does anyone know if Block Island, RI residents had to evacuate to the mainland? I had noticed it on a map and wondered how they were doing because I hadn't heard them mentioned at all. TIA

Glad you got your power back! If the ice cubes didn't melt, you're good to go. Everything should be fine in the freezer.

Your parents sound like my father-in-law and my husband. Gennies at the ready, canned food and probably Coleman fans as well? Lot's of Coleman survival gear from water protected matches to coleman lanterns and stoves. Hey, they do come in handy. :)
