Police cite common factors in all six killings. All the victims worked at small shops near the interstates, mostly businesses with just an employee or two, Senter said. Five of the victims were women, and police believe the killer mistook the lone male, who wore his hair long, for a woman. All six were shot in the head.
In most cases, a small amount of money was taken, though police said robbery was incidental.

The same killer is also linked to two 1993 murders in Texas. More information here:

This is probably a stretch, but I recently watched the Unsolved Mysteries episode on Tracy Kirkpatrick. She was a teen who worked in a ladies sportswear store, who was killed as she prepared to close the store. There was not robbery and she was not sexually assaulted. This happened in Frederick MD in 1989. She was stabbed, not shot and was a teen, but this was just 3 years before this string of crimes. I 70 begins in Frederick MD. I thought this was worth considering as a precursor crime.

This comparison was done by someone on the Neal Falls forum, but I thought some people may not have seen this who only look here. http://i57.tinypic.com/33tt9vq.jpg The picture on the left in NF in high school (18 y/o?), middle is the witness sketch of the I70 killer, and the right is NF now. Still thinking about the Tracy Kirkpatrick case and how similar the victim and the crime scene are to the I70 murders....

From the St. Charles Police Department facebook page

Attention Gun Enthusiasts, Take a close look at this flyer of a very unique gun. The firearm is an Erma Werke ET-22. This gun is believed to have been used to murder six shop clerks in the spring of 1992. Please share this flyer with any and all gun owners, collectors, and dealers. The killings occurred in shops located along Interstate 70 and Interstate 35 between Indianapolis and Wichita Kansas. This is also believed to be the weapon that killed Nancy Kitzmiller on May 4th,1992 in St. Charles at the Boot Village. The St. Charles Police Department needs your help to solve this crime!

The toggle type loader gives it away as a Luger based weapon, I assume downsized to a .22 cal. (if that's what the -22 means?)

ET-22 is a .22 caliber pistol with 11 inch barrel built for the West German Navy according to wiki.

As others have mentioned, I think it's very possible that Neal Falls is in fact the I-70 killer.

I just noticed on the timeline in the NF thread that he moved to Kansas in 92--is it known WHEN in 92 he moved there? If he moved there before the I70 shootings started in April, that would be quite a coincidence if it wasn't him.

Also DDH was found in Wright City but it looks like she disappeared from Alton Illinois, which, for what it's worth, is roughly halfway between where DDH was found and where Lindsay Harris was found a year later.

I've been investigating Neal Falls and trying to determine what he may connected to. The I-70 killings weren't one I thought of until I came across that article and lurking around in this thread. This is interesting, because I know there has been reports that Neal Falls was currently being looked at by police in connection to two Texas murders, but the news hasn't confirmed what murders specifically and I have yet to come across any that seem like they may be connected to other murders he has been speculated to be involved in (primarily the Henderson, NV murders). I started looking into I-70 to see if I could match up some of the locations with a timeline I made on Falls. Right off the bat I came across a list of victims credited to the I-70 killer, two were in Texas. Mary Ann Glasscock and Amy Vess.

Also, note this newspaper article that was mentioned in the Miss Molly thread.

https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=-LlEAAAAIBAJ&sjid=SbYMAAAAIBAJ&pg=3031,1878739

They noted a similarity to another recent (at the time) death out of Geary County, KS. I'm not sure if that case has ever been solved. Full article on the left side of this page:

(Note: Image that appears here is unrelated; it is NOT a post-mortem if you scroll down. It's a child bent over backwards eating the first snowfall of the season. :) )

I might have missed it, but has the Salina, KS, "Miss Molly" case been considered here?

(Namus link contains morgue image)

This was some time earlier, but connected?

IMO this seems to be very different from the I-70 serial killer's MO.

Also, does anyone know if Neal Falls has been tied to these crimes via DNA? And for that matter, does anyone know if any DNA evidence has been collected in this case?

Looking into Neals Falls MO further - I'm not convinced he's connected to these crimes. He seemed to target escorts and all of the victims here worked at retail stores close to the highway. There is the possibility that his MO changed and intensified over time, but I'm just not sold on this theory.

One angle I'm interested in is that how did the I-70 Serial Killer know the store had only one employee? I believe there was some scoping out of these stores (or at least on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th murders). The second incident in which two people were in the store took him by surprise and the following incidents only had one person. So I wonder if there were any incidents of him going to the stores before committing the murders.

The other thing that is peculiar is how frequent these murders happened in such a short period of time (6 murders in a month) and then nothing after that So I wonder 1) what set him off and 2) why did he stop or take a break (I wonder if other sprees like this exist).

Just a few thoughts...

Indiana Cold Case: The I-70 Serial Killer | 93.1 WIBC

INDIANAPOLIS--I-70 is not only part of America's interstate system, it connects cities in Indiana and connects Indiana east and west across America. In 1992, it also helped a serial killer find his victims. Two of those victims were in the Hoosier State, and the man has never been caught.

His MO

He left his shell casing behind, and from that police determined it was a .22 caliber bullet that was likely fired through either an Intratec Scorpion pistol or an Erma Werke ET22, both of which accommodate large-capacity magazines and resemble higher-powered, automatic weapons.

Money was missing from the cash drawer, but not enough to look at robbery as the motive. Fuldauer had not been raped or molested.

Police looked for hitchhikers, truckers, traveling salesmen, eventually sifting through thousands of names on hotel registries. They couldn't find a motive and didn't have a suspect.

By the same guy

Police determined all three women and McCown were killed by the same person because of the shell casings, and the way he killed his victims, by shooting them in the back of the head. A red substance was found on each casing.

He also went in small stores, while no customers were in the store. In Terre Haute, Keen says police back in 1992 decided they had to work together and try to solve the cases.

Nancy Kitzmiller and Sarah Blessing were next two victims, killed in May, 1992, in small shops in St. Charles and Raytown, Missouri, respectively.

I've posted this before, but I think it bears repeating. The pictures are, from left to right, Neal Falls in HS ('87/'88), the I 70 killer witness sketches (about 4-5 years later), and Neal close to current age. To me this is the most uncanny resemblance of a sketch to a legitimate poi I've seen.
