RSO Rules: It seems there is a legal consideration concerning whether we are allowed to bring information to Websleuths from the actual sex offender registry.

It is illegal to use the sex offender register information to harass anyone. We would never condone this at Websleuths. It is not illegal (in my opinion) if when a child goes missing or is harmed we look at the sex offenders in the area and post their information, along with maps to show how close they live to the victim. In every case we have local people reading and posting here. Therefore we are within the guidelines using this info for local information. Again, we are not EVER going to even hint at harassing anyone on the sex offenders list. Any posting we do about a sex offender will always be within the law. If any of you have other questions about what you can and can't post please contact a mod and we will do our best to clear things up.

"WATERLOO, Iowa — The father of one of two Iowa cousins found dead following their disappearance last summer is facing new drug charges.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (http://bit.ly/14y10PI ) 36-year-old Daniel Morrissey of Waterloo is charged with trying to make methamphetamine and possessing simulated meth sometime between Dec. 1 and his Feb. 11 arrest for failing to comply with conditions of his pre-trial release"

I eagerly await the day I open this thread and see *arrests made*.

Thanks to princess pjs for reposting the great pics of seven bridges! :). Thanks to TCK's for the nice map of the park boundaries. This is where I become confused. I have been looking at this map: http://www.recreationparks.net/IA/bremer/seven-bridges-county-park-readlyn

It portrays the fork in river, ie dump site as being east of the park border. Does anybody see what I am talking about? TIA.

Yes, I see what you are talking about. I'm not sure what the deal is with this map, maybe just not as detailed?

Just wanted to repost this bit of info. contained within above link.BBM

"The bodies were found Wednesday afternoon in the wildlife area, a secluded space that receives regular visitors, Bremer County Sheriff Dewey Hildebrand said.

Seven Bridges park is about 25 miles north of Evansdale, the Black Hawk County community where Lyric Cook-Morrissey, then 10, and Elizabeth Collins, then 8, were last seen on July 13. The Bremer County park has canoe access to the Wapsipinicon River, which winds through the 125-acre area"

I understood that this park was so secluded and abandoned since the bridge was destroyed that not many people heard about it. This article and the one below make it sound like the park is more popular than was previously reported.

Maybe some families visited there to picnic and/or play in or near the water since the level was so low and less dangerous. Canoers or kayakers on the river may have taken a break along the beach like areas. There may be someone who may have ventured near the site and were turned off because of the odor but never investigated it.

If so, I would hope that they have now reported it because this would pinpoint when the girls were there, but unless the story stays in the news, out of town visitors may not be aware of where the girls were even found.

The wildlife area is popular with hunters in the fall, fishers in the summer and mushroom hunters in the spring, said Frank Frederick, director of the Bremer County Conservation Board.

Not as many people fished in the area this summer because of low water levels,

Yeah I'm not sure it was quite as abandoned as some have made it out to be. On the Find Lyric and Elizabth Facebook page there was a lady that said she camped there this summer, there were two other people who said they searched there for the girls. So it's not like 7bridges was completely overlooked by the locals during the searches.

That picture of the recovery location makes me SO unbearably sad, and scared. :(

Ditto, that picture and the one of the fence where the bikes were found.
Still hard to think someone could so coldly snuff out the life of two little girls on a summer's day.

Per Heather Collins, Lizzie's burial service is scheduled for Saturday, May 4 at 11:00 am at Waterloo Memorial. It's open to the public.

Ty for link. I can't access it for some reason though that is almost certainly due to my PC rather than the link.

Waterloo Memorial isn't the same church as the celebration of life service, is it?

I'm also wondering if "burial" indicates that remains (even if in form of ashes) are to be interred? I'm only curious because I had thought they might scatter Elizabeth's ashes over the Meyers lake island.

Thanks! Your last point is important to note as only a frequent fisherman of the Wapsipinicon River might know that...or not. :blushing: I wonder if someone out there is wondering about their fishing buddy?

Here's part of Heather's post:

We feel that everyone in the community has given us such much support and has taken her as part of their child we want everyone to have that chance to do the last unbearable step in putting her body in the ground.

I think Waterloo Memorial is Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.

I feel rather strongly this area is known to the perp or someone connected to
the perp - the deposit place was NOT chosen by accident. The perp knew it
was secluded and not being visited much. Just close enough yet far away
enough from Evansdale to be the perfect (quick?) dump site.

Yes. Someone who uses this area or visits there, knows it well, may have a connection to the
perp ... this "place" was "specific" in the perp's thinking and knowledge base at the time of the
crime and within the perp's travel circuit during the crime! This place may even be on the
perp's "home ground"! The 20 miles radius from the scene of the abduction at Evansdale has
meaning, imho and it was not chosen by accident.

Maybe area bait shops or hunting supply stories know the person and
maybe employees at those stores have heard the perp talk about
this park and know the person likes this area and has used it a lot in the past!?

Something very specific connects the perp to this park and it's 20 mile radius back to
Evansdale i.m.o. It defines the perp(s) in some very specific way. The perp had a million
options for disposing of the girls but chose this place and manner. That defines the perp
and the options the perp had/ chose to use.

The perp(s) used his knowledge base to commit this crime. That is a given. And in doing
that he released part of his identity! This perp is no genius but risks using opportunity and his
knowledge base which includes 7 Bridges and the fact 7 Bridges wasn't being used much last
summer during the God-awful drought. This perp could be closer at hand than we think.

Time for shoe leather interviews!!! There is no substitute for that even in this computer age.

Slim leads ~~ tangible connections!
