Sorry for quoting myself here. When I look at this "rendering" I have a few thoughts.

It looks more like a cartoon than a real architectural presentation. As a designer I read blueprints and plans.
It also has religious tones that may not appeal to the general community.
Too much "symbolism" IMHO.
This FB page was created March 29.

I just want to know what is really going on. :banghead:

That's exactly what I was thinking. Additionally, the perspective view and the plan view don't look like they are the same plan. It looks like a marketing style tourist map produced with Illustrator, whereas "renderings" today are produced using Revit and tweaked with Photoshop. I've started building a crude model with Revit. I'll spend a little time today building a better topographical map and add whatever is in the plan. The more info I have, the better.

Um, what is the Elizabeth and Lyric Memorial Center? I'm guessing a building with like memorabilia inside? Sorry, but besides the family, who is going to go to that...especially as the months/years go by? The girls were not celebrities yet to me a "Memorial Center" seems to indicate that they think there are going to be throngs of people everyday wanting to visit; and see things like toys the girls had, clothes they wore, their school work, etc. That is just weird. It's like a tourist destination. Graceland.

lol "graceland"... :fence:

I have heard it referred to as a park shelter, like where one has picnics and family reunions/birthday parties at. This is the first time I've heard it referred to as a memorial center. Maybe it's just a fancy name for the covered picnic shelter?

"Board members also gave volunteers the go-ahead to pour concrete pads for the shelter and four gazebos that will be built on the island and designated funds from an annual Green Scene grant be used to purchase trees for the memorial.

Volunteers said they are working to get a rendering done of the memorial so community members can see what they have planned."

Here's the topo map ... gazebos next ... based on the plan view above

Dan is incarcerated after pleading guilty on existing charges and faces new charges for additional manufacturing and useage. I doubt he can be in the media spotlight supporting the memorial. I don't believe Misty has been seen or heard from since being released from her stint at being incarcerated and released January 30th after what, a 2-3 month stint? I would imagine 72+ year old Wylma tries to make it through the days and painful nights clinging to Lyric's Teddy bear in the bed they used to share. I forget now the point you are trying to make?

Good post. I don't understand why who was where even matters. I am sure Heather and Drew would rather have their daughter back than memorials. Dan and Misty were not always in the spotlight by choice, or because of their missing child. The case was in the spotlight for quite a long time, and then (as always happens) faded. I always felt LE was doing everything they could, maybe the family felt the same way. I'm sure Wilma has lonely days filled with self-doubt and pain for the loss of two grandchildren. My heart goes out to all of them followed by a fervent prayer that I NEVER have to know their pain.

I think the reason this memorial seems a bit odd to me, is that usually when you hear of memorials for young children, the memorial is something that would benefit other children, often playgrounds of some kind. This does not look like it is to be a park designed for children.

@Marilyn, My opinion has changed on which girl was targeted if indeed there was targeting.

I once was pretty convinced that there was a Waterloo connection and Lyric was the primary focus.

I now believe if the girls were targeted that Elizabeth was the primary.

I'm just curious, does anyone know who has control of how the funds are utilized once raised?

I'm just wondering who has to approve the release of the funds for the park renovation? Is their an administrator to say "yes" or "no" to how they are used?

Did the family request the funds be used for this? And did the entire family have to sign off on what amount goes towards the park renovation?

bbm - I don't know the answer to that.

I'll hazard a guess and say "no" simply because imo the people who are running the show don't even know the true definition of "plans" when it comes to a project of this magnitude.

And, imo, they not only put the cart before the horse, they failed to fill that cart w/the necessary funds to complete the project before they went in and damaged the island... leaving it vulnerable to further damage.

To date, I have failed to see the word "bonded" associated with this project. Hopefully I just simply missed it...

This gazebo is based on a 16 foot span from wall to wall, and a 10 foot ceiling. I've added people to give a sense of scale. The beauty of Revit is that it is a BIM (building information management) software, meaning that once you build the model, the plans, sections and building information is automatically ready to place on sheetsets (blueprints).

Or a sad sort of Disneyland. :blushing: :moo:

bbm - Graceland indeed !!! <Where is that emoticon "showing a fox ROFLOL" when I need it?!?>

I shouldn't be laughing because you just trumped the reply I was planning to give to the link provided by BunnyHop which was "yes, it's heavenly isn't it?"

So, eileen, I say both "Ty for your post" and "Thanks alot." :great:

Being a local, I too was somewhat shocked when I saw the island at Meyers Lake almost completely stripped of trees. But, having heard and read the news reports of why the trees had to be taken, it makes perfect sense to me. The island was completely neglected in the past, and the trees, to my knowledge, have never been trimmed or thinned out. And with the ground uneven, it wouldn't make sense to half-cover a tree to make the ground more level, or to have some teetering dangerously above ground. I also read most of the comments on the couriers article. People living near the lake have valid points. Yet one thing is for sure, nothing stays the same. You can do what you want with your own property but you cannot expect the landscape around you to stay the same. I also know that many people around here don't like change, and many that are complaining they didn't know never pick up a newspaper or watch the news, or heaven forbid, attend a council meeting. I have faith that it will be beautiful in the end. JMO.

But what about the issue of how the trees blocked the noise from the interstate?

Also, I'm pretty sure that the trees being cut down was never mentioned in the media or at any City Council meeting....

Not yet rendered, but the sketch image of the model as it appears in the above illustrations (rendering takes time)

The biggest question on my mind is whether the dirt that was put there to make an Island in 1980 is actually stable enough for all the structures that are planned.

Then, there's that big question about financing a project of this magnitude!

If they want to name the park, Angels' Park, go ahead. But I think the constant memorial theme throughout it is a bit much.

I've read some of the comments on the news websites and some people are saying that this major renovation will make the park safer for children. The problem I see with that is that Maiden Lane is still where it was before, it is still as secluded as it was when the children were abducted, and the trail is going to be just as enticing as it always was. That is, renovating the Island will not prevent children from cycling to the drainage pipe and it will not prevent a predator from potentially abducting children at Maiden Lane and taking them to 7 Bridges Country Park to be murdered.
