Why would he park at the truck stop, wait until the surveillance camera was obscured, get out of the car and start walking south on Rt. 17. There is nothing down there but Briggs Wood Lake and river under the highway.
If self harm is being considered, why not just drive down there to the bridge or the forest.
I think he left his vehicle at the truck stop in hopes that it would make it harder to find him. If what's being said on SM is true, that is... Very sad case.

I'm not fully understanding the wife's comment about how it would be normal for him to go with someone asking for help.

If it was a friend or family member or someone known to him, wouldn't it be easily know if he went to help someone and who it was?

Did she mean strangers? He was at the truck stop without his wallet or cell and someone asked him for help and he obliged, leaving with them? Why the trip to the truck stop? Why no wallet?
When you think about it- that doesn't even make sense.

He left his phone and wallet at home? I could see possibly the phone, not everyone lives on their phones or it might have been charging at the time, but his wallet? Yet he took his keys and drove to this truck stop- he was seen there on video pulling in. So now what?

Self harm? Foul play? Or just walked away from everything from stress?

Oh my, I see what you mean.

Map attached of area just south of Webster City town center. Doc's truck stop marked with T. Boone River and Briggs Woods Park (with reservoir) just south down Rt 17.

It seems that Jay would park near the river or Briggs Woods Park, if his intent was to go there. Stopping at a truck stop north of that area does not seem logical.

It strikes me that his car was found at a truck stop on Route 20, a major cross-Iowa highway. Seems the only reason for Jay to disappear there, would be getting picked from someone traveling Route 20.

Or someone put his car there to make it appear he was picked up by someone traveling Route 20.

Words matter. The articles so far imply Jay was identified as being in his car at the truck stop, but not sure if that is poor journalism. Maybe he never was there.

Rambling and confused...

This wasn’t a well thought out, premeditated “hey I’m leaving this life of mine behind” type of thing. Think more of a bear of the moment type situation.

Oh no, deceased?
Doing my own sleuthing with the kind tips from people here I was afraid that was going to be the case, but then the news release someone posted above with the wording about "Good news" and no more info to be released out of respect for family made me think perhaps he just ran off/took some time to himself instead. :(
