Nearly 19 months after the killings of four University of Idaho students, Stacy Chapin, Ethan Chapin’s mother, opened up on a podcast hosted by Taylor and Taylor Lautner about trial delays and being thrust into the headlines following the murders. NBC’s Morgan Chesky reports for TODAY.

MOSCOW (Idaho Statesman) — Ahead of a hearing next month, attorneys for Idaho student homicides suspect Bryan Kohberger have labeled his prospects at a fair trial in Moscow both an “extreme case” and “utterly corrupted” in seeking a venue change to Boise for his upcoming trial.

In a court filing made public Tuesday afternoon, Kohberger’s public defenders argued that their client’s constitutional right to an impartial jury will be infringed upon without moving the trial out of Latah County, where the crime occurred. In their legal brief, which runs 300-plus pages long, they cited as further justification the “extensive publicity that is ongoing and inflammatory,” including the dissemination of inaccurate information in the news and on social media that would also be inadmissible at trial.

Healing Garden is complete in Moscow, Idaho

The Vandal Healing Garden and Memorial, a place honoring University of Idaho students who have died while attending the school, will be officially dedicated in a celebration on Aug. 21.

The ceremony is open to the community, and will be held at 4:30 p.m. on the University of Idaho campus.

Although there is a dedicated memorial to the four students, Jackson Wiedenfeld said the space was designed for all Vandal students who didn’t make it to graduation day.

Talking to the families of the victims was a big part of informing the design, Wiedenfeld said, and so was hearing from the community.

Vandal Strong bracelets were sold to help fund the Memorial.

The 10,000 students who attend U of I are studying anything from sustainable systems to fire ecology to marketing and they are cheering on The Vandals – apparently back in the day their basketball team played such fierce defense that it was said they “vandalized” their opponents…and that’s how their mascot came to be.

Very cool. This will honor the precious 4 from King Rd as well as all Vandal students who passed away while they were enrolled at University of Idaho.

University of Idaho Architecture and Landscape Architecture students collaborated extensively with the community, fellow students, faculty and staff. The memorial wall allows people to write thoughts and memories and even add and light candles because there are interactive niches along the west side.

Bryan Kohberger's defense team has filed another motion to have his trial moved from Latah County, citing the "mob mentality" within the county where he allegedly stabbed four University of Idaho coeds to death in their home.

According to court documents filed on Monday and reviewed by Fox News Digital, Kohberger's defense argues that the pressure to convict the 29-year-old criminology Ph.D. student is so intense that survey respondents said the community would "burn the courthouse down" if he was acquitted.

In a court filing, Anne Taylor wrote, “The mob mentality within the community is the exact reason that statutory grounds, prior to selecting the jury, exist to move venue.”

Excessive media coverage is another argument from the defense.Prosecutor Bill Thompson argues "the mere fact that the crimes reported by the media are gruesome or memorable does not render the publicity inflammatory to the extent of requiring change of venue."

Taylor justifies shipping this trial to Ada County (Boise) based on the answers given by prospective jurors on the defense’s survey. They conclude inherit bias within the county eliminates Kohberger’s chances of a fair trial.
