Here is where she said about the mortal wound to the chest. I am linking the post to give credit to the original poster.
I think she's done 2 interviews, plus I don't think she should have been releasing any of the details anyway.

If this happens again, I'll have no words.
As in, if there's a random killer and they strike again ?
I want to think that this was a one-off and at least the other students aren't in danger.
"Targeted" sounds like other students may not be in danger ?
What a mess.
I would think that the “why” of the targeting theory would have the most influence on whether others are in great danger.
Bottom line is there is a strong, skilled, organized killer on the loose.

As far as I can tell from available info, the two roommates were sleeping at the time of the murders. I don't think they even witnessed anything.
And drunk.. question: when did other kids arrive in the house.. and call 911? Who were they? If they saw an "unresponsive person" as reported on 911.. wouldn't they have been horrified at what they saw of the blood, stabbing?

Could the pause just be him stumbling to avoid accidentally referring to J by name?
Something that jumped out at me from the presser is that when LE was first listing the individuals who had been cleared, he specifically did not mention the call recipient. It was only in response to being asked that he gave the quoted response. Seems if the recipient were truly cleared, LE would have affirmatively included him in the initial list. JMO

So in response to being asked if the male who received the calls from the victim that night was a suspect or had he been cleared the response was exactly this:

"Everything we have taken from those calls we've followed up on we've cleared and we um...believe that there's no connection there."

So I'm not actually sure we can say J has been cleared or ruled out as a suspect. The language is a bit vague but it could be interpreted to mean those calls were not connected to the murders. As in they were not made in response to someone being in the home or being attacked.

It could also mean J has no connection but language isn't clear either way IMO.

Another case where a follow up question to clarify would have been great. Wish I could have been there to ask myself!!!

I think they are implying that they were asleep when the attack began, I don't think they would have been asleep for much longer after the initial impact. Your body would likely go into an instant fight or flight response and flood your system with adrenaline. Given they were all stabbed multiple times and some had defensive wounds, whoever did this would have likely seen plenty of fear/terrified reactions imo.
Oh I’m sure they woke up after the attack began. Maybe I should have made it clear that I find it odd that all were asleep at the start of the attack.

Clearly they weren't all asleep at the moment they were murdered, considering some had defensive wounds.
I think what LE means is they were asleep at the start of the attacks.
I agree, I’m aware there were defensive wounds. Just find it odd that they weren’t awake at the start of the attack.

I think the time of the murder is significant. whoever wanted these people gone imo knew that they couldn't overpower these people awake so targeting them whilst they are sleeping and defenceless was the only way. Knife attacks are often very personal and you can't do it from a distance like a gun you need to get up close and personal to the victim. I wouldn't be surprised in the future if we hear one victim was stabbed more times than the others etc and was the main target. All imo.

In many other crime cases, people who discover bodies often think it's a mannequin at first, because it is so unnatural and shocking to see a deceased our wounded person. Is it possible that all they could utter was that someone was passed out? I'd be curious to know where they were when they made the call and how long it came in after they arrived at the house.

exactly. Reporter should have have followed up with a clarifying question. ugh!!!!

J, KG’s ex? I think her sister would have mentioned that, along with the family as they’ve been defending him. Him being the one to make the call would be pretty impactful on their story.
LE said today that the 911 caller is not a suspect

Why is all of the attention focused on Maddie & Kaylee? Maybe the killer was after the other couple.
I thought of that as someone said maybe they held the key (answer).
