Hall had made a threat of self-harm, but police are skeptical that was his intention when he left. His father, Allen Hall, is a former police officer, and he told the Post Register in September that people who take their lives are usually found quickly.

The only clue lies in a journal page Jed Hall seems to have left behind on accident. The page lists items Jed Hall planned to take with him, including survival supplies. The page also includes plans to disguise himself so that others would not notice him.

Yesterday marked the two year anniversary of the disappearance of Idaho Falls’ teen, Matthew “Jed” Hall.

Since his disappearance, Idaho Falls Police Investigators have made significant efforts to locate Jed but those efforts have not yet been successful. IFPD is seeking assistance from the community in the hopes that reigniting the public conversation about Jed will result in additional information that leads to answers or locating the missing teen. Until definitive evidence of his whereabouts and/or well-being are obtained, the Idaho Falls Police Department will continue to search for Jed Hall.

To date, neither Jed nor the car he left in have been located.

I had never heard of this case until I saw this today.

IDAHO FALLS — After two years, the disappearance of Mathew “Jed” Hall has become even stranger.

Jed, then 16 years old, disappeared Jan. 22, 2018, and has not been seen since. Newly released surveillance footage from American Heritage Charter School reveals the last time Jed was seen, and now a private investigator is offering a $10,000 reward to anyone with information pertaining to Jed’s whereabouts.

The footage shows Jed decked out in what appears to be combat boots, knee pads and eye and ear protection as he breaks into American Heritage Charter School.

“(The surveillance video) will show us how incredibly stealthy, smart and focused this young man was,” Jim Terry said.

Terry is the private investigator for Gulf Coast Investigation hired by the Hall family to aid in the search for Jed. He is also the person offering the $10,000 reward.

Private investigator releases new evidence in Jed Hall disappearance

After two years with little headway, new evidence has been made public regarding the circumstances around Jed Hall’s disappearance in 2018.

Private Investigator James Michael Terry of Gulf Coast Investigative Solutions, hired by Hall’s parents, has been questioning Hall’s friends and was able to access his online messages.

The evidence released by Terry paints a different picture of Jed Hall than was originally reported. In contrast to the student with good grades who wanted to serve in the military, Hall’s own notes portray himself as a troubled kid uncertain about his future, and who was contemplating murder.

Terry said he has also found evidence that Hall had planned his disappearance months in advance, that he may have committed multiple crimes before leaving, and that he told friends he intended to travel to Canada.

Thank you for the link, tarabull. :)

From the article:
  • Jed's information has been entered into national databases that will alert any law enforcement agency to his status.
  • LE has contacted Forest Service and Fish and Game agencies in Idaho and neighboring states.
  • Investigators have also worked with dive teams to search various areas of the Snake River in Idaho Falls and Bonneville County.
  • He was last seen on cameras at American Heritage Charter School, where he broke in, left a note, a necklace and money in a friend’s locker.
  • Jed's parents hired PI James Terry in April as leads were left open.
  • "This is 27 months later and that car is not on the road anymore," Terry said. "That car is likely in somebody's garage...if (police) believe he's alive like I do, then that car was placed somewhere."
  • Terry said Jed left behind a suicide note and a notebook detailing his survival plan at his home, which he believes was a ploy to throw-off police.
  • Jed's friends told Terry there was another notebook that disappeared from inside his unlocked locker the same day he did.
  • Terry is now upping the reward money to $20,000 to anyone who can lead to Hall's discovery, including Hall himself. His number: 813-993-2242.
