We're just in contact with them, letting them know about our case," McLachlan said of West Valley City police's communication with Idaho authorities.

Grimes says the Idaho State Police Crime Lab will try to make an identification of the remains in a process that will take at least two weeks and possibly two months.

Grimes tells the Post Register that police are fairly sure the remains are of a female, but not certain. He says suspicious evidence at the scene prompted the investigation, but suicide can't be ruled out

Police: Body found in Idaho not Susan Cox Powell

Susan Powell WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - West Valley City Police say a body found in Idaho is not Susan Cox Powell.

The body was discovered in the mountains above Idaho Falls on Friday by a stranded motorist.

WVC Police have been in contact with Idaho Falls investigators, who now believe the body belongs to an Idaho woman who has been missing for three years.

The investigation into the Susan Cox Powell disappearance continues as police in Utah continue to follow every possible lead, according to WVC spokesman Tom McLachlan.

Stephanie has been missing 2 years and 8 months...
Are they saying that this is Stephanie, without "officially" saying this is Stephanie?

I spoke to Stephanie's aunt yesterday. She said the not knowing is causing a lot of stress. :(

May they finally have an answer. Soon. And have some evidence to be able to bring justice.

Eldridge and Hoopes Family Speak About Body Found in Ammon

[snip]

Amber Hoopes has been missing for more than 8 years and Stephanie Eldridge has been missing since 2007. In both cases, hope has not been given up.

"You know it's tough," said Deb Rowbury, Stephanie Eldridge's aunt. "It's like opening an old wound. But it's also helping because somebody out there, if not Stephanie, it might be Amber Hoopes or somebody else that's missing."

Family members of Stephanie Eldridge say the past few days have been rough.

Investigators are saying it is a good possibility the body found might be Stephanie or Amber. An autopsy of the body is currently in progress at the state lab in Boise.

Stephanie's family is preparing for the candle vigil they hold each year in August to commemorate the missing in the eastern Idaho area.

Possibly for one of these families, their family member will no longer be missing.

Praying for closure for Stephanies family. :rose:

Do police have any persons of interests or suspects in her disappearance?

They have a few POIs. But none that have been named in the media. They did do a polygraph on one person though.

http://www.kpvi.com/Global/story.asp?S=7101189

Last Friday, police did a polygraph test on Stephanie's common-law husband, Mike Jimenez. His mother Lynette says he was willing, and cooperative.

Police will not say if they have any suspects at this time, but plead with anyone with information to come forward.

Oh dear, I found the facts of Stephanie Eldridge's case sad. The infant must be a 3 yr old now.
"The morning she disappeared, she left behind her shoes, purse, car and her 4 month old in an infant swing in the living room. The only thing she took was her cell phone."

Prayers to all of Stephanie and Susan's family and friends who have to wait now for the remains to be identified.

Nancy Grace is covering the finding of the remains.

I pray this is Stephanie and then again for her family I pray it isn't.

What will be will be...may her family find the answer they are looking for...

God bless them and Stephanie. Prayers that she comes home to their everlasting love soon.

Investigators in Idaho said they are looking at one missing-person case in particular: the disappearance of an Idaho Falls woman named Stephanie Eldredge more than two years ago.

"We believe it is ... Stephanie, but we won't know for sure until we get a DNA comparison," Idaho Falls police Sgt. Phil Grimes told AOL News.

Eldredge was reported missing on Aug. 20, 2007, after the then 21-year-old mother of three disappeared from the home she shared with her boyfriend and his mother. All her personal belongings, including her car keys, were found inside the house. Authorities conducted multiple searches in the area but were unable to locate any sign of her.

Grimes said that when authorities examined the remains -- which he described as "fairly complete" -- they found "evidence" at the scene suggesting the body might be Eldredge's. He declined to give specifics on what they found.

Grimes also said police have "some persons of interest" in the Eldredge case.

According to the Idaho State Police Crime Lab, an autopsy on the remains was completed today. Experts are now awaiting the results of DNA tests, which could take anywhere from two weeks to two months.

Nancy Grace Talks Remains Again

CNN talk show host Nancy Grace again tied the human remains found near Idaho Falls to those of missing Utah mom Susan Powell, going to the airwaves with Susan's father Chuck Cox.

[snip]

She did acknowledge the possibility that the remains could belong to either Amber Hoopes or Stephanie Eldridge.

But Grace spent the majority of the time talking about Susan Powell and invited Susan's father on the show to talk about his feelings on the case.

Idaho Falls Police spokesperson Sergeant Phil Grimes declined to appear on the Nancy Grace show Tuesday. Sgt. Grimes has been clear they are going to wait until an autopsy and state lab results return before they release an identity.

As 3 women in region remain missing, police try to ID bones

Suspense builds as authorities try to identify remains of a woman found four days ago on a remote hill near Ammon, Idaho.

While police reportedly say the body is not likely that of Susan Powell, 28, a stockbroker who vanished in December, they have not ruled it out.

[snip]

More than two years ago, a woman from Idaho Falls, Stephanie Eldredge, vanished, and police are exploring the possibility it could be her.

[snip]

Investigators are also working around the clock to determine if the remains could belong to 20-year-old Amber Hoopes of Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was last seen at her grandparents’ home, wishing them a good night.

An autopsy on the body was reportedly finished today and now the DNA test results are eagerly awaited but could take several weeks.

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — Idaho Falls police say an autopsy of remains found in the Ammons foothills has led them to open a homicide investigation.

Sgt. Phil Grimes says evidence found at the scene also pointed toward homicide. He did not elaborate on the condition of the remains or what evidence was found.

Grimes says investigators believe the remains belong to Stephenie Eldredge, an Idaho Falls mother of three who went missing in August 2007. However, they're awaiting confirmation from dental records and DNA results from the Idaho State Crime Lab in Boise, the Post Register reported.

Detective Steve Avery says the bones will undergo further testing and examination by a forensic anthropologist with the King County Medical Examiner's Office in Seattle.

Skeletal remains believed to be Stephanie Eldridge

Based on what officers found at the scene, evidence in the autopsy, information obtained through the initial disappearance, and what they've received throughout the investigation, leads Idaho Falls Police to believe the remains are that of Stephanie Eldridge and that she was murdered.

Police would not specify on the condition of the body or whether it was buried when it was found. But they do believe several people have been near the remains.

"I think that people have definitely been in that area. Probably quite a few people during a two and a half-three year period. I think it was just out of the way enough where people just didn't notice it and didn't notice the remains," says Sgt. Phil Grimes with the Idaho Falls Police Department.
