The only airline that operates open seating is Southwest and they have ZERO flights out of O'Hare. I also find it odd that the luggage arrived and she did not. As someone else said here, TSA rules require that luggage be removed if their owner doesn't board the flight (to prevent terrorists from sending bombs onto planes unescorted). Security Footage is going to be key here but I doubt Chicago airport police will release that info to the community.

If they didn’t remove her luggage, I hope they have a record of her getting on the plane or it certainly is a security breach! If she got on the plane, did she get off in Portland or did the plane stop in Denver, Salt Lake City or Seattle first? Could she have gotten off in one of those places?

Great thought! I fly regularly to PDX from Chicago as my elderly Dad lives in SW Washington. I always take the nonstop but a lot of the flights are NOT non stop and you can often get cheaper fares by going through another city. Hopefully LE has her flight details.

I’m sure they do have her flight details and have checked video at other airports if the plane stopped. But if she did get off elsewhere, the question is “why?” If she made a mistake, she would have been in touch with family by now. If she meant to get off and disappear, that is quite another matter and may explain family silence...or not.

There was a big security breakdown if she did not board the flight that her luggage went on. Anytime luggage shows but the person whose luggage it is does not board the plane the flight will be delayed while that luggage is removed from the flight. This would also be the case if she gave up her seat if the flight was overbooked unless the airline made the arrangement to send it ahead.

I completely agree! IMO, I don’t see how an airport can look over her on wrong flight or luggage on wrong flight, etc...security security security.

Technically this is true but I’ve had my bags arrive at my destination hours before I did due to missing a connection. I assumed they would pull my luggage but they didn’t and they were at the final destination waiting for me. My bags were not the only ones either. There were quite a few unclaimed bags.

Wasn’t that hospital case awful?!! I always think of that possibility now. What if she collapsed in a restroom stall in such a way that she wasn’t discovered? I would think by now she would have been found, but human error being what it is....

Yes!!! So awful!

Oh that’s good info. I didn’t know that SWA was the only one with open seating! We fly SWA from pdx to Chicago but we always go to Midway. So the odds would really need to be in her favor to board the wrong plane and happen to take a seat nobody else was assigned to.

Right! And the fact that they can’t seem to determine if she got on another plane is really concerning. They should have her on camera at a gate and can cross check the schedule to see where she went.

Could she have a falsified license or passport with s fake name that she used to take off? This is really weird.

Have they said why she was traveling? Who did she go visit and how was the visit? How was her mindset when it was time to head home??

I think she may be still somewhere at the airport.

Usually, i also know the procedure that if a passenger does not board the luggage gets taken out. But on a flight to Phoenix, with group of colleges, somehow my luggage went with an earlier flight. When we arrived it was not on the pick up, and when we asked it was given to me at a service desk.
