Stan,
Thanks for the link. The article was a treasure trove of info. Good pics, too.

Fay's brother, John William Rawley died in 1925 at age 4. So, no nieces or nephews floating over with insider info.

Yeah, Virgil Ball looks kind-of cool in his pith helmet.:websleuther: A man on a mission

That pic of Rawley in glasses still isn't the one I remember seeing years ago.

Rawley and his wife were separated and their divorce actually became final the day after he disappeared, November 9. I just saw that in a local newspaper.

I don't believe on the 9th that it had yet been realized that Rawley was missing however.

I've always objected to the phrase, "last seen alive" by (whomever). In actuality, the last person to see them alive is also the first person to see them dead--the killer.

Summum was nearly a 40 mile drive from Macomb, all on two lane roads, so it should have been about a one hour drive for Rawley to make from his girlfriend's house to his own residence on the fateful night. A total of about two hours travel time for a Sunday night date - it must have been something pretty important.:innocent:

That said, between 1935 and 1957, Illinois had no speed limit other than "reasonable and proper" so maybe Fay dialed the Caddy up to 100+.

That's excluding the war years of 1942-45 when there was a national speed limit of 35 mph set to conserve gasoline and rubber.

Has anyone looked into the possibilty that one of his siblings was tied in with the mining operator across the field? As a politcian he had many enemies with a big one being the mine owner. I feel there was a jealous sibling about his money and the women. I am wondering if the sibling was willing to pay the mine owner to assist in his killing? More so, I believe the brother was not away of the 7-year statue and thought he was the beneficiary of his estates. I believe that the son has been looking researching. I think that when the 7-years was becoming closer, the sibling, possible cousin had someone work on the brakes for several reasons, 1st, son was getting too close, second the sibling, cousin was not going to wait anymore for the estate.

Just my thoughts. Troy Griffin

I don't really know anything about his siblings.

I don't know how "well off" Rawley was but he was apparently not a millionaire because I've never seen him described as such. That said, as per the inflation calculator, half a million in 1953 was worth over four million dollars in today's money.

I don't really know anything about his siblings.

Since he had children, a sibling wouldn't profit unless they were in his will or were in some sort of legal partnership with him.

Or, the sibling was the beneficiary of his life insurance policy which would be unlikely, I think.

I haven't seen any indication that either one of these was the case.

A legal partnership would include owning real estate together which I haven't heard of.

I don't know how many siblings Rawley had living at the time.

Summum's other big celebrity is famed cowboy movie sidekick Smiley Burnette.

Hi there, I think the struggle at his home was staged.
Anyone else find it strange his girlfriend broke it off with him the same night he vanished?
I also think someone would notice a Cady. At any time of day . It was a Cady!!
I also worder about the gossip around town. The guy was almost divorced and had a girl on the side. Did she have another man one who was jealous?
I just don't think he never made it home. Someone intercepted him lead him to where ever he and the Cady. Are. He would have been upset not really paying attention. Easy to do.could be someone he knew.
Wouldn't the obvious place to look for him would be the mine? I would think so.
He's in water or deep wooded area.Or developed land. The Cady could have ended up in a chop shop.
Did his son fallow his line of work?
I think the son was about to tell the police something. ..
The face book page was probably to keep tabs on the investigation. So family of the killer.
Anyone join it?
