CRIME ALERT
At approximately 10:22 pm on November 9, 2021 the Wheeling Police Department received a Missing Persons report after family members became concerned that 21 year old Ms. Ja’nya Murphy had not been to work, nor had been in contact with family members since the previous day.
Ms. Murphy lived with her one year old daughter Jaclyn “Angel” Dobbs at 365 Inland Drive in Wheeling. After initial attempts to contact Ms. Murphy failed, Wheeling Officers with the assistance of the Wheeling Fire Department were able to access the balcony of Ms. Murphy’s apartment and found the door unlocked.
An ensuing check for well-being revealed Ms. Murphy had apparently been murdered and Angel to be missing. Wheeling Police along with the Northwest Suburban Major Crimes Assistance Team are actively working to secure the safe return of Angel and to identify and apprehend those responsible. At this time we are seeking the public’s assistance in locating Angel.
The victim, Ja’nya Murphy was a 2018 graduate of Stevenson High School and lived with her daughter in Wheeling.

Ja’nya Murphy, 21, was found about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in her home — “apparently murdered,” police said — and her 1-year-old, Jaclyn “Angel” Dobbs, was missing, according to Wheeling Deputy Police Chief Al Steffen.
Murphy was “targeted,’’ said Steffen, who did not elaborate except to say this was not a “random thing.”
Steffen said he had no indication if Angel was safe, and a police statement indicated they were investigating the situation as a kidnapping.
More at Wheeling mom who was slain was ‘targeted,’ police say, as they hunt for her missing baby after ‘horrible’ attack
