It was reported that Joseph E. Beranek ,46 years old, white male, from Macomb, Illinois, had not been seen by family since August 21.

During an investigation into Beranek’s whereabouts, it was determined Beranek had driven to Black Hawk State Park, in Rock Island, Illinois sometime around August 21.

The distance is about 75-100 miles (depends on which route you take).

Does Joseph go to the park regularly and is he familiar with the area?

There is a glacier lake at the park. I hope he didn't have an emergency while swimming. His car was still there so he probably is in the park still.
I don't think there is a lake, glacier or otherwise, at this park. There is a park with the same name in Colorado with a big lake but the park here in Illinois is pretty small (around 200 acres.) It IS near the Rock River however. black hawk state park museum - Google Search

Here is a trail map of the park from the State Park website. https://www.blackhawkpark.org/docs/ParkMap.pdf

Here's the park you were thinking of that had the glacial lake - that's in Iowa. Black Hawk State Park, Iowa Hopefully he didn't try and swim in the Rock River - currents, depending on the time of year, can be fairly strong.
Thank you. He has to be somewhere and water is often where they're found
