Thank you so much for the update. Such a slow process!

Also complicating the case is that when police came to arrest Whelpley, their body cams rolled on a private conversation between the suspect and his wife that the judge threw out.

So when this case does go to trial, which sources said will be later this year, it is that trillionth of a gram of DNA that is likely to speak loudest in the People v. Barry Whelpley.

While a trial date has yet to be set, there is another hearing on the case next week in Will County Court in Joliet. Last year, Hanson's family said they arent ready to talk - but still can't believe there actually will be a trial for their little girl, who today would be in her mid-60's.

Julie Ann Hanson was on her way to her brother’s baseball game on July 7, 1972 when she went missing. Her body was found the next day in a cornfield on the outskirts of town. In 2021, authorities arrested Barry Lee Whelpley of Minnesota for her murder.
Photo courtesy of Naperville Police Department

''Whelpley’s defense team has spent the last two years attempting to suppress statements Whelpley made to law enforcement officers – and his wife – during an hours-long recorded interrogation at his Minnesota home, before his formal arrest. His defense team claimed he was not read his Miranda rights prior to the at-home interrogation.''

''Last year, Will County Judge David Carlson agreed, ruling that any statement Whelpley made at his home was not admissible.

The question now is whether statements he made at the police station – after leaving his home – are admissible. His defense team claims they’re not.

A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 8 related to his defense team’s motion. Whelpley is currently being held on a $10 million bond.''

From the article posted above ^^

A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 8 related to his defense team’s motion. Whelpley is currently being held on a $10 million bond.
[.....]
On Aug. 10, a judge will rule on the motion. And those who are awaiting justice for the death of Hanson will be one step closer to the trial related to her assault and murder.

I see they have TWO dates in August for a hearing....

But the court site - last I looked it said Aug. 10th only. The site is down for maintenance right now - so I check later in the day.
