As far as I have seen murmur online, she has been identified about a week ago. Her details have been also pulled from LE official sites. No name has been released and no official statements has been done yet. Not sure they will do though.
"Two years ago the body of a baby was found inside a burning house in Markham, but now the baby has finally been identified. And someone intentionally killed her.
The Cook County Medical Examiner said that baby was 1-year-old Ana Marie Townsend. Her death is ruled a homicide. It’s likely she was suffocated and taken to an abandoned home that her killer then set on fire. Ana Marie lived only one year, leaving behind grieving grandparents with far too few memories.
Ana Marie was a very vibrant young lady,” said James Townsend. “She was very smart. Even at 12 months old she was inquisitive and a beautiful baby.”...
It was DNA testing that eventually led to her identity. Baby Ana Marie Townsend lived less than five minutes from where her body was found. The autopsy showed she suffered prior abuse, with multiple healed bone fractures. Ana Marie’s mother, Melody Townsend, and father, Rico Garrett, both vanished three weeks after the fire. No one has heard from them since." Markham Baby Found In Burning Home In 2017 Identified; But Who Killed Her?
I sure would like to know more information about the parents from law enforcement.
Also from your link,
"While Tow**end fears his daughter may not be alive and grieves the loss of his granddaughter, he and his wife are raising Ana Marie’s 12-year-old sister."
The mother of an infant found dead inside a burning home in Markham in 2017 has been charged, but not with the baby's death.
Melody Townsend was charged with felony child endangerment and concealing and aiding a fugitive, Markham police said at a press conference on Thursday.
Townsend's daughter, Ana Marie Townsend, was found by first responders in the burned out, abandoned house in the 1500 block of Hamlin Avenue in Markham on July 3, 2017. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office ruled her death a homicide.
The baby's parents, Melody Townsend and Rico Garrett, the baby's father, both vanished weeks after the fire.
Markham Police Chief Jack Genius said on Thursday while the case went cold in the two years after the baby was found, tips came in which led detectives to California where the baby's mother was located.
Grandparents maybe didn't want to believe it was possibly theirs and submit DNA until the sketch came out? Glad the mother has been arrested, hopefully she can lead Justice to the father. Unconscionable.
RIP Ana Marie. You were a beautiful baby girl. I hope you have made a few friends in heaven and are playing peacefully in God’s garden. I find it suspicious that the parents vanished after she was found deceased.
