Circumstances of Discovery

A farmer was working near a ditch beside railroad tracks near Wichert North Road and 500N Road in Momence Township, Kankakee County, Illinois. He smelled a foul odor and exited his tractor to look in the ditch. He spotted a decapitated skull and contacted the police.

The skull still contained some flesh and police estimate the victim has been dead for six months or less.

Extensive searches failed to yield any additional human remains near the area where the skull was discovered.

In February 2003, a Kankakee County inquest jury ruled the death of the unidentified man was a homicide and the case has been investigated as a homicide.

Police do not believe the unidentified man was killed at the spot where his skull was found, and they do not believe he was from the area.

According to Google Maps, Momence is about an hour and 19 minutes south of Chicago. Maybe he was from there?
Yeah it seems to be a central location for a few states that you could easily drive from. Indiana, Wisconsin & Michigan are all also close as well. Especially considering they believe his remains were dumped.
