GUILTY IL - Rosemary Newman, 18, pregnant, murdered, Calumet City, 23 April 2011

Rosemary had gone out on a date leaving a note at 10:30 pm on Saturday (presumably 04/23) she called her mother from a restaurant; and was reported missing on Sunday morning when she failed to return home.

She was due to give birth to a baby girl within a couple weeks.

I was thinking the exact same thing, its not often that either party would choose to start a new relationship at a time like this. I have a friend that met someone, fell in love, and 3 weeks later he was her labor coach :floorlaugh:

But def not the norm, unless it is the father, or someone that has history with them

The man who got Rosemary pregnant and his girlfriend have been arrested for 1st degree murder and intentional homicide of an unborn child. Mug shots of these PsOS at link.

Authorities said the attack on Newman had been planned out for weeks. Thomas hid in the trunk of a car while Minkens took Newman out for dinner. When they drove away from the restaurant after dinner, the volume being turned up during a song titled "I hate you" was Thomas' cue to jump out of the trunk and strangle Newman, prosecutors said.
When Newman didn't immediately die, the pair continued to beat her until she was unconscious. They then took her to the forest preserve, where her body was later found, and continued beating and strangling her, Dart said. She and her unborn child ultimately died.

Very sad. I hate when I see these cases. My thoughts are with her family.
What is wrong with people. He probably didn't want to pay child support and his gf didn't want to be connected, reminded of her. Sick, evil, disgusting, waste of lives. Enjoy prison.

I'm just stunned by anger and despair at the nature and pointlessness of this crime. They cold-bloodedly planned and carried out the murder of this young woman and her unborn child oh and not satisfied with just murdering her they had to beat her first? Rosemary had, by all accounts, clearly accepted she'd be bringing up her child alone and was actively equipping herself with the education and tools necessary to do so.

So what was their problem? There is NO justification for this, no possible excuse or mitigating circumstance, NONE. This is based solely on an overwhelming arrogance, selfishness and sense of entitlement on both their parts. In his case, freedom from encumbrance ie the responsibility of supporting the child he fathered and in hers freedom from the possibility of 'her man's' enforced connection to a former gf by virtue of the child. I'm so glad they caught this pair and I hope they are never allowed to walk free again.

Deandre Minkens, who prosecutors said choked the life out of a pregnant teenager who was carrying his daughter, was convicted Friday in Cook County court of killing 18-year-old Rosemary Newman and their unborn child...

Thomas was convicted Thursday on the same charges after the two were tried together, but with each assigned a distinct jury.
