Police Lieutenant Michael DeGiulio is not commenting on a possible motive but he says no one else in Schaumburg is in danger.

“I want to assure the public there is no reason to believe anyone else was involved in this crime. Within three days the Schaumburg Police Department arrested the person responsible for this crime.”

Police say they have 200 pieces of physical evidence. They also say Mejia-Maya has made incriminating statements.

Court records confirm that Mejia is a Mexican citizen. He had an outstanding for falling to appear in court to face a drug possession charge in Utah. He also has a conviction for battery in Florida. U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations filed a detainer on Mejia after his arrest, according to ICE's public affairs officer.

Thrasher's family loaded up a truck and moved her things out of the unit Thursday afternoon.

Neighbors said they would see Mejia sitting on the back of his truck in the parking lot drinking after work with friends. His unit sits just about 50 feet away from the unit where Thrasher lived.

"They'd just sit out there and stare around. They were just creepy looking. They would look at my daughter creepy. Finally I wouldn't let her go with me to the garbage can," Joseph Person, a neighbor said.

Mejia's name was apparently not listed on the apartment the lease. Police said he lived there for about six months. His arrest has many neighbors relieved.

"It's a relief. I have a one year old and I always want to know what happened," Gabriela Kushev, a neighbor, said.

wow wow wow, just read this thread. liltexans, you're a trooper for posting everything and giving this story the space it deserves for this woman. Amazing that they apprehended this guy so quickly and that he has made incriminating statements. So very sad, lots of sad news here today, even in the midst of some happier news.

May there be justice and may the family and loved ones find a chance to smile when then think of Tiffany.

Glad he was caught and will be brought to justice swiftly. Here is an article from local news.

No ties found yet between Schaumburg murder, Rolling Meadows attacks

he horrific SA and killing of TT by an intruder over the weekend got us thinking about the similarities between the crime and a pair of home invasions a few months ago in Rolling Meadows.
In those cases, a man broke into apartments just a few miles down Algonquin Road from the 33-year-old TT's Schaumburg apartment. In one case, the intruder SA a female resident. In the other, he approached a sleeping resident, but was scared off when another resident confronted him.

The picture sure does look like him.

The neighbor charged with Tiffany Thrasher's murder admitted to raping her this week but said he was drunk and doesn't remember strangling her, prosecutors said, according to WGN. Bulmaro Mejia-Maya appeared in bond court Thursday after being extradited from Florida, where he allegedly fled after Thrasher was found dead on Easter Sunday. Mejia-Maya, who is charged with home invasion, aggravated criminal sexual assault and first-degree murder, was ordered held without bond.

In what Cook County Associate Judge Joseph Cataldo called "a single woman's worst nightmare," Mejia-Maya is accused of entering Thrasher's apartment through an unlocked window and confronting her in her bathroom. When Thrasher refused to have sex with him, a violent struggle ensued in which he struck her with a bottle, then pushed her onto her bed and sexually assaulted her while she fought back, prosecutors said.

The attack left gouge marks on Thrasher's face, wounds on her hands, and lacerations and bruising on her genitals, authorities said. A prosecutor's description of the crime scene included blood on the bedsheets and the wall, a broken bed frame and a mattress partially on the floor.

After the attack, Mejia-Maya left through the window and returned to his apartment in the same complex, where he told some of his roommates that he had hurt Thrasher, according to prosecutors.

They said that while being questioned in Florida following his arrest, the defendant admitted to sexually assaulting Thrasher but said he was drunk at the time and didn't recall strangling her.

However, before he left her apartment, Mejia-Maya checked her chest and saw she was not moving, authorities said the defendant told them.

On the last night of her life, Tiffany Thrasher dined with friends. Shortly after 7 p.m. that day -- April 15 -- the churchgoing, dog-loving Chicago Cubs fan stopped at a drugstore on the way to her home in The Lakes of Schaumburg apartment complex. Her last contact with anyone she knew was at 8:24 p.m. via text.

Sometime after that, Thrasher experienced "a single woman's worst nightmare," in the words of Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo.

Cataldo ordered Bulmaro Mejia-Maya held without bail Thursday after prosecutors described an ordeal they say began when Mejia-Maya got drunk and saw Thrasher arrive home that evening.

On the night Thrasher died, Mejia-Maya, 29, told police he saw her arrive home carrying bags and offered to help but Thrasher declined, McCarthy said. Mejia-Maya told police he returned about an hour later, entered the apartment, encountered Thrasher in the bathroom and told her he wanted to have sex with her, McCarthy said.

After Thrasher threatened to call police, Mejia-Maya stated he punched her, pushed her onto the bed where "a violent struggle ensued" and forced her to have sex with him, McCarthy said.

His account to police was similar to what he told his roommates after arriving back at his apartment early on April 16, McCarthy said, except he told his roommates Thrasher punched him and he hit her with a bottle, McCarthy said.

Later that morning, Mejia-Maya called the drywall company owner, told him he had a problem and asked to move out of state. He subsequently told the owner he was going to Mexico, McCarthy said.

"March 18, 2019. The man accused of sexually assaulting and strangling a woman who lived across from him in a Schaumburg apartment complex has rejected a 55-year prison sentence in exchange for a guilty plea.

Bulmaro Mejia-Maya told a Cook County judge Monday through an interpreter that he would rather have a bench trial than accept a plea deal his public defender and prosecutors had negotiated for months. The judge set the trial to begin on April 8, though it is likely to get delayed as both sides work to schedule witness appearances."

Man accused of raping, strangling Schaumburg neighbor rejects 55-year plea deal

The trial must have been delayed; I can't find any recent articles. Or is simply with all the crime in Chicago this vicious murder just isn't news anymore?

Anyone know how to search the Cook County records?
