I don't see the red emblem on the front grill of the Astra that picked up Yingying. Does anyone else?

Googling around I found a few other images of Saturn cars where the emblem appears black and not red but that could just be the lighting and angle of the car.

ETA: And apparently you CAN buy black Saturn Emblems to put on your car: http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=160748

According to my knowledge, she did not have relatives. Her family's income is below average. Her dad is a farmer/taxi driver. As for the boyfriend, there is no information about him having any relatives in the US.

Woah her dad is a taxi driver? Is this verifiable?? Not saying that I don't believe you, I just would like that piece confirmed. That could be a major piece of information, I believe.

Yingying Zhang, whose father has worked in China as a driver, aspired to become a university professor in part to help her family, friend Yige Yang told the newspaper. She arrived at U of I in April and is in the natural resources and environmental sciences department.

She comes from a family of modest means. Her father has worked as a driver for an electrical company and a taxi driver in China. Her mother, who remains in China because family members say she wasn't physically or emotionally up to the task of traveling to the U.S., is a housewife.

"Because the financial situation at home is not great, (Zhang's) goal is to study hard and help the family. Her focus in college was studies," said Ye, the scholar's aunt. "She was between the classroom and the library. She also worked as a tutor so she could earn additional income."

I can't say for sure. I've heard that he's a farmer, or a taxi driver. But according to most Chinese news sites, he is just a temp at an electrics company, nothing special.

Has this been posted before? I don't believe so. Disclaimer: Not my video.

A Chinese website exclusively interviewed former FBI agent Peter Klismet. In his opinion, Zhang talked with the man for a few minutes before getting in. Here are some excerpts translated using Google translate.

The auto translation has many mistakes, but Klismet believes a local news site broadcast the video was edited.
In his opinion, the perp and Zhang talked for a few minutes.
I am not sure what really happened, or if the video we see her getting in is edited. I really thought I saw some surveillance video, which lasted for about 4 minutes, but I might be wrong.

In a round about way, an old associate that currently works in LE, pointed me towards this information. Importantly, he works in the Chicago Metropolitan area and has no involvement on this case.

It was over a decade ago, but I found this article to be fascinating. It was archived online as the webpage hosting the article is no longer available. If you have trouble accessing this link, let me know.

Although Asian and Asian-American women were targeted in six campus robberies in July, the reported robberies since then do not show patterns of being motivated by race or gender, University Police investigator Jeff McCracken said.McCracken and other community leaders spoke Friday at a rally the Asian Pacific American Coalition sponsored on the Quad to raise awareness on campus about the robberies. McCracken said police suspect five of the six July robberies were committed by the same person.
"Since APAC was really affected, we felt the need to do something for the entire campus and raise awareness," said APAC director Peggy Ho.
Between July 1 and Nov. 1, 2001, and that same period for 2002, the number of reported robberies on campus increased from 10 to 23, McCracken said. He noted that some of the robberies in 2001 included firearms, while the robberies in 2002 were mostly labeled "strong armed robberies," which means force, but not a firearm, was used.

HeatherLiu, thank you so very much for taking the time to post all of this information.

Another article from late October, 2002. In my opinion, I think this information is very important.

Attacks on Asian and Asian-American females, which have occurred on and around campus since July, are giving administrators and student organizations cause for concern. The latest attack against an Asian woman occurred Oct. 20, but University Police investigator Jeff McCracken said it most likely isn't related to the other attacks.
University spokesman Bill Murphy said Chancellor Nancy Cantor has been very concerned, and he said Wednesday a commentary on the issue should be available today on the University's home page.
"Because this seemed to be a pattern, it was a real concern to let the public know," he said.
Junior in ACES Annie Yoo, a member of Asian American Association and Asian Pacific American Coalition, has been planning strategies to address this issue with other student organizations. A forum about the attacks was held Oct. 10 and a rally was held Oct. 16.
"These attacks have been ongoing," she said. "Since the perpetrator attacks them from (behind), it's hard to get a good description."

Curious to know why you feel an article from 15 years ago may still be relevant today?
ETA are you finding current day information that the problem still exists?

Clery act (college safety law) only requires the last 60 days of filed police reports to be released. They're heavily redacting. I'm reviewing the annual report for 2016 now, but, no prior years are available.

Thinking at this point it may or may not be relevant, don't have an opinion yet.

I don't want to break the rules; but, can anyone advise what they know about the webpage http://kantie.org? While researching, I discovered a page within the site on this case's victim. It includes numerous case related photos and screenshots. The reason I ask is: Somehow, someone got ahold of the records preservation request for the victim's social media page(s).

The site is written in what appears to be Mandarin.

I would post the link but I don't wish to violate TOS. If I may, let me know, moderators.

Same as above, except this time, a different site: http://Sohu.com

The webpage I found displays a photograph of reportedly a text message conversation between the property manager and the victim. In the aforementioned photograph, it shows that the victim sent a message saying, " May be around 2:10." The manager replied, "Okay, see you then!"

Like I said before, I would link the webpage but I do not want to violate TOS.

Yes I know that picture. I'm sure it's okay to link the page.

What if she was waiting at the corner for a bus?
