Bremen is very small, "downtown" is really only a few blocks. Very rural areas around the little town. I am surprised there is no follow-up to Desi's murder on any of the local stations. Not hearing any gossip about who the murder is either. Things are very quiet. Maybe because this happened so close to Christmas and the schools are on break. I sure hope LE has leads and are working the case. If they need help, I hope they ask for it.

The unnamed juvenile told officers they had met through a mutual friend on social media and was with him about five times from the end of school until he left for the military at the end of June.
During one of the encounters Fabian Rubio drove the juvenile female around. They parked in two different locations southwest of Bremen, one of them being the “Little Egypt Cemetery” and the second being the “Troll Bridge” on 5th Road."

That's disturbing, and a bit of a coincidence, I'd say. Arrested just two days after Desirae's death? Very suspicious. Thanks for the info, liljim.
 
yeah, since there is not a single piece of news its pretty hard to know what to think. lots of theories running around my head but all baseless for the most part...

blunt force trauma wouldnt rule out a car hitting her but why would the person get out and try to burn her then?
im sure we all start thinking the same thing when we hear fire - destroy evidence first, extreme rage/hatred next.
still hoping there is evidence of who she was going out to meet that night, worst case scenario is she just decided on a whim to go out and try to find people partying but it seems remote to me that she wouldnt call/text anyone first from her room to see what was going on.

idk, i guess im going to try to stop thinking about this one until there is something new, same with JC...

Good catch! From your article: This case broke on December 21st when an informant contacted Bremen Police Officer Nicholas Spaid and advised that a mutual friend had information regarding 19 year old Fabian Rubio. The additional information was from a separate and ongoing investigation.

I'm sure the "separate and ongoing investigation" is Desi's murder. I think most of the time when bodies are burned it was done to destroy evidence/DNA left by the killer.
 
From his fb you can see they know a lot of people in common. I think they may know who the killer is. One girl says the Killer just called her pretty and she is freaked.
 
Hope there was some DNA and they are just waiting the results...

she lived right by the east side of lake of the woods i think, about 2'ish miles as the crow flies from this spot...

I recently posted a topic about another nearby murder--Sarah Gibbs, who died in Warsaw, Indiana, and liljim pointed me toward this crime.

It could be coincidence, but there are some rather unusual similarities.
Sarah Gibbs and Desirae Jones were both young women who were murdered on the same day, December 19th 2014, and lived within 30 miles of each other in Indiana. They were both killed during some form of assault, then some attempt was made to burn their bodies. Both were most likely alone with their killers.

There are differences. Sarah Gibbs was a 34-year-old autistic woman living alone, and she was killed in her apartment rather than outdoors. Thirty miles is a lot of space. They could be totally unrelated. I just don't have enough knowledge of statistics to know how many of these types of coincidences you can expect to see and how likely it is that they're not coincidences. How often do murderers try to cover up their crimes by setting fires? How similar were the murder weapons? I don't even know if perhaps there's been a well-known something or other in the media where a killer covers it up by burning the body, and it simply inspired both killers. I don't know how likely it is for two very similar murders to happen close to each other without them being related.

But it still made me wonder, so I'm throwing it out there. Thanks, liljim.

This week Marshall County Sheriff Tom Chamberlin was asked for an update on the case. Chamberlin said, “Forensics testing is the main delay in charging, with holidays and the limited forensic staff.” He continued, “Primary tests indicate we are on the right path.” The sheriff closed by saying, “These things take patience to build air tight case.”
