Teen charged as adult in connection with murder of Indianapolis doctor

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (Meredith) — A 15-year-old boy arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor is now being charged as an adult.

Indiana University Dr. Kevin Rodgers was shot and killed Nov. 20, 2017 at his home.

Tarius Blade, 15, now being charged as an adult, faces three counts of burglary in connection to the murder, according to WRTV.

Three other teenage suspects have also been charged, including: Devon Seats, 17, is charged with murder and two counts of burglary Nehemiah Merriweather, 17, is charged with murder and two counts of burglary Ka'Ron Bickham-Hurst, 18, is charged with murder and burglary.

Trial for suspects in Kevin Rodgers murder to begin July 15

INDIANAPOLIS — Two suspects in the November 2017 murder of Indiana University Dr. Kevin Rodgers had pre-trial hearings Thursday.

The cases of 19-year-old Nehemiah Merriweather and 18-year-old Devon Seats were merged and both are scheduled for trial together on July 15. The trial originally was scheduled to begin Monday.

Blade and Bickham-Hurst previously pleaded guilty to lesser charges of burglary resulting in bodily injury. They will be sentenced after the Merriweather-Seats trial.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — One of the teen suspects who pleaded guilty in connection to the death of an Indianapolis doctor will be sentenced today.

FOX59 doesn’t typically name juvenile defenders. However, prosecutors charged Tarius Blade as an adult. He pleaded guilty to three burglary charges. Blade was 15-years-old at the time of the crime

Ka’Ron Bickham-Hurst was charged with burglary and murder for his role in Rodgers’ death. But court documents show he pleaded guilty to three burglary charges. Today, his lawyers will appear in court for a hearing.

17-year-old Devon Seats and 18-year-old Nehemiah Merriweather also are facing charges of murder and burglary. They are set to go to trial this fall.
