I'm just checking on his case; there are no new dates. Edwards was his assistant atty; his lead atty is still on the case.

About "dragging this out", since he knows he's going up for a long time, is there an incentive to shoot for a speedy trial? He's still in custody in Bartholomew Co. jail, which is probably much better than where he's going after the trial.

*Change of Plea Hearing (@ 9:30am CT) - IN - Emma Grace Patricia Sweet (2) (Last seen Nov. 24, 2021, reported missing Nov. 25, 2021; found Nov. 28, 2021 -2 ½ miles downstream from truck. The death certificate filed for 2-year-old Emma indicates her manner of death as homicide & cause of death as complications of hypothermia & asphyxia due to drowning). Also Jeremy Sweet, dad & truck found Nov. 26, 2021 in the White River, Columbus, Bartholomew County. *Jeremy W. Sweet (38) arrested (11/28/21) & charged (12/1/21) with neglect of a dependent resulting in death & unlawful possession of syringe.
No actions were taken by her adult caregiver to rescue Emma from the dangerous environment & this inaction resulted in her death," the Bartholomew County Sheriff alleged in a statement, "and thus the manner of death is homicide."
Trial was set to begin on 5/10/22 continued to 8/23/22.

Edwards, appears in Courtroom. Court conducts an initial hearing on State's Habitual Offender Enhancement & Court explains defendant's rights & the charge filed against him. The Court conducted a bond hearing & after testimony & argument of counsel, the Court finds defendant is a high risk to re-offend per the IRAS; has three pending cases in Bartholomew County; high risk for failures to appear in Court; and a danger to the community. Court DENIES defendant's request for bond reduction. Judicial Officer: Worton, James D. Advisement of Rights Conducted. Habitual Offender Enhancement. Next change of plea hearing on 4/4/22 @ 9am, pretrial conference hearing on 4/25/22 @ 11am & trial still set to begin on 5/10/22 @ 8:30am.

Yes, I believe he will/or took a plea deal. Probably a "good" deal he thinks - I would guess. Going to trial, he would probably get a lot more time if found guilty.
