(May 31, 2012)

The Bloomington Police Department released a statement Thursday, just days before the one year anniversary of the disappearance of Indiana University student Lauren Spierer.

Police said the investigation is still “very active” and several “credible” tips come in on a weekly basis. They stated the tips include information that has obvious relevance or correlation to information already known to investigators.

The newsday article says the teeth are intact.

Surely, the lab tech can take a look at the pic of Lauren that is so widely circulated - with the full-tooth smile where you can clearly see her upper teeth - and do a very quick "up or down" decision on whether this is probably Lauren. She looks like she's had braces, which would have been within the last decade - surely her orthodontist has good clear records and x-rays - I would think by the end of a single business day, they'd be able to say with 99% certainty whether these are Lauren's remains or not.

This agonizing wait seems so unnecessary - and actually cruel. :(

The family of missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer released a photograph of a ring similar to one Spierer may have been wearing the night she disappeared last summer.

As someone with connections to the area, I've followed Lauren's case for a while. Here's to hoping that she returns to her family. Thanks for the update summer_breeze.
