What police know, a safe and 46-inch TV were taken two years ago. Those items can be replaced. But, what can't be replaced is the life of Lowell Badger -- father to four, grandfather of six, great grandfather of four and there's another on the way.

Lowell's son Alan Badger said, "We had just finished showing cattle up at the Hoosier Beef Congress at the Indiana State Fair. Dad had stopped by, watched the kids show cattle. He was excited about that. He came home. Ya know, he loved to go out and meet people and see people. He loved to go out and eat and he had got to do that the week before. He had got to make his rounds"...

Badger said, "The concerning part about it is the individual or the individuals who took part in this act was it was pretty brutal and, you know, the concerning thing is, is this the only time they've been this way? Are they going to do this again?"

''A man imprisoned since last year has been indicted on murder and other charges in the 2012 slaying of a retired farmer found shot to death in his western Indiana home, police said Wednesday.

A Sullivan County grand jury indicted William Ray Grimes on charges of murder, burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary in the December 2012 slaying of Lowell Badger, state police said.''

"This is the beginning of the criminal process," special prosecutor Rob Roberts said in a news release. "Once again, we encourage anyone that has information related to the murder of Mr. Badger to contact the Indiana State Police."

BREAKING: 2nd arrest made in the Lowell Badger murder

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update 1:02 p.m.: Documents released today show the extraordinary efforts of investigators who were trying to solve the murder of Lowell R. Badger of Sullivan County.

“Indiana State Police along with the special prosecutor Rob Roberts and the Sullivan County Prosecutors were able to make an additional arrest of Richard Taft, who is incarcerated at the Michigan City facility right now,” Sgt. Matt Ames with Indiana State Police said.

According to a probable cause affidavit (PCA) filed in Sullivan Superior Court Richard D. Taft of Sullivan was indicted after detectives interviewed 58 witnesses. He is now the second man indicted in the case after William Ray Grimes was arrested in April.

Several witnesses refer to Taft being incredibly emotional and crying in the days and months following Badger’s murder. The PCA states that several witnesses claim Taft had varying stories regarding his involvement in the incident. Taft was interviewed on several occasions by law enforcement, always denying any involvement.

In an interview, one witness claimed that Taft said he had the gun but couldn’t pull the trigger. At that time he said another person involved told him he’d show him how it was done before that person fired and killed Badger. The Probable Cause Affidavit names the individual that Taft claims fired the gun. Due to no charges being filed at this time, WTWO has chosen not to name that individual.

''Taft is currently incarcerated at the Michigan City Correctional Facility on unrelated drug convictions. Online court records do not list an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

Taft's arrest comes after another imprisoned man, William Ray Grimes, was indicted in April on charges of murder, burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary in Badger's killing. Grimes' trial is scheduled for October.''
