CBS News has learned that the US reached a “quiet understanding” with Qatar not to release any of the $6b in Iranian oil money that was transferred as part of a U.S.-Iranian prisoner swap. This news comes as the US and Israel scrutinize Iran’s role in funding and training Hamas.

Though the advice is sound, nothing is easy in the Middle East.

Last time large numbers of Palestinians left their homes in the course of a war, they were not allowed to return. Their "abandoned" homes were then confiscated.
Plus the neighboring countries don't want them. Most already have refugee "camps" from previous conflicts plus they've been known to try and overthrow the governments of the countries that offer them refuge. So even if they could leave, they really don't have anywhere to go.

IMO, the US 'quiet understanding ' is a save face move. That 6 Billion has been a sore spot with many.

Jewish BBC sports reporter quits his job because of broadcaster's refusal to call Hamas 'terrorists', as he slams 'unjustified' decision and says words have the power 'to fuel hate and put fuel on the fire'

It seems clearly evident that Hamas should (at least) move women and children to the tunnels. If Hamas cared about their citizens, the tunnels should have been prepared prior to their attack (which was obviously planned) to "safely" protect and care for innocent lives. I'm curious if anyone has seen any logical/intelligent (or even ridiculous) answers the pro-Hamas offer for these very simple questions and thoughts?

They did prepare the tunnels for innocent lives. The hostages.

I was thinking the same thing about the tunnels being used as shelters.

My family has been hiding in the bomb shelters on their kibbutz. I am relieved my cousins have all done their military duty and are not on the front lines, but my Israeli cousin married a Palestinian woman, and they live very close to the fighting. We have not been able to get in contact with them.

Honestly? Some Hamas spokesperson today just blamed the citizens of Gaza for the atrocities on the Israeli people. He deflected the blame on his own "people" who are supposedly victims of some contrived " Settler Terrorism", stating that his Hamas peeps weren't responsible.....just the oppressed citizens he was fighting for. Make that make sense, please!

Pretty cowardly of the State Department.
They should be standing at a podium in front of the world announcing they are doing this and WHY they are doing this.

From what I understand, basically they say Hamas are not part of the Palestinian people - they are like evil overlords (?) And the Palestinian people are basically sheep with absolutely no control of their lives or well being. So although Hamas are very very bad nobody can do anything about them since going after them will hurt the innocent people of Gaza - who absolutely cannot help themselves or fight alongside others to wipe out the Hamas and give themselves a better life.
