Search continues for missing Texas State student
Dec. 15, 2020

“Teams made up of local authorities as well as Equusearch focused on a remote area northeast of Luling. Much of it is around a large oil field that dates back to the 1920s

It’s a place where someone could easily get lost according to Felix Cortinas who has a deer lease nearby. "A lot of old wells, saltwater disposal, old wells that were never even capped or cemented just holes and a lot of creeks, a lot of steep banks," he said.“

Hope fading as search for missing Texas State student ends third day

However, hope started to fade when authorities turned their attention to a nearby pond where a sonar hit was made. As the water was drained the family braced for the answer they didn't want.

At last report, there was no information regarding what, if anything, had been found in the pond that was drained. With Jason Landry still missing authorities said the plan was to be back along Salt Flat Road Thursday to continue the search.

Day four of the search began bright and early on Thursday morning.

Jason’s dad, Kent Landry, was on site as well, along with several other family members as crews continued their search.

Southminster Presbytarian Church in Missouri City, TX, where Jason's father Kent is a pastor, has been providing updates on its Facebook page. This evening, one of the updates included the following:
- Pumping the pond has taken longer than anticipated. Due to the size, it won't be fully pumped until sometime tomorrow, most likely later in the day. They think the initial thing they saw on sonar was a large grouping of turtles. However, 5 scent dogs all made their way to this pond. He said by tomorrow they will have a significant answer. Once it is pumped they have dogs that search for human remains. They will go through it with a fine-tooth comb.

because that means there is hope he is still out there somewhere.

Their have been teams that have continued searching the area throughout this time. They will also take DNA from the car and gather any other evidence they can. This will then be turned into a nation-wide missing person case from the best we can understand. Others who do criminal investigation will be brought in to try to determine what happened and where he is.

- Kent said that as long as there is breath in his lungs and air in his son's lungs, then there is still hope. His prayer is that Jason is home for Christmas.
