I am in dreadful regard for the horrendous consequence this calamity has had on all of Matthew's victims and families. My prayers will continue to be with them for a long, long time. But I think the effect of Matthew's acts on society are so broad that it will even change my families' behavior. Back in my days (the "olden" ones) we were always given "mad money" to keep in our purses to call a taxi if we found ourselves in a vulnerable situation. Obviously, in today's society, that is no longer a dependable practice. I will now have to advise my grandchildren to double that mad money and only hire and enter a cab accompanied by a friend ~ never alone.
And, crumb bum, now when we're all drugged up going to and returning from surgery on those lousy gurneys we have more to be concerned about than getting all those IV lines caught and tangled up. Escort those loved ones as far as you can.
I guess the big "take away" is to always, in all circumstances, surround yourselves with family, friends and loved ones!
How mournful that these lessons learned have come at the expense of so many beautiful, innocent young women! May their suffering not be in vain.
