Birmingham police swarm Jefferson Avenue in search of Kamille "Cupcake" McKinney

"We're asking because we feel that there are some people on the sidelines who have information that is incredibly important to this investigation that may just be that one piece to close things," Smith said. "So, the most important thing is the involvement of the citizens, those in that community and those around us to make sure things happen when they should."

Smith suggested to people who want to volunteer in the search to visit the Birmingham PD command post first.

The chief said two persons of interest taken into custody Sunday night in Center Point are still being detained, though no charges have been filed at this time. Smith said more information about possible pending charges will be shared later.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —

Jack Owens worked as an agent for the FBI for 30 years. He says continuing to share Kamille "Cupcake" McKinney's photo helps get her story out to the public, with the hope to bring her home soon.

He says that where she was kidnapped (at a party), is unusual. He also wonders if perhaps the kidnapper(s) knew she was going to be there.

'Bring this baby home': A plea to kidnapper days into search for 3-year-old
[...]

At a Monday night vigil, Jasmaine Deloach, the head of Angel Arms Operation Exploited and Missing Persons in Birmingham, spoke directly to the unknown person who took Kamille.

"She might not even remember who you are, so if you have any heart, please let her go," Deloach said. "She's a little kid that barely probably can even say what color you are."

"I do not want you to harm her," Deloach said. "Don't have any kind of hate in your heart to hurt that child. We're asking and we're begging and we're pleading ... bring this baby home."

She also made the following plea:

“I just want to say to that person, let her go, Do the right thing. IT could have been you. It could have been your child. Anybody just let her go.”

During a press conference Tuesday, Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith continued his appeal to the public because he knows a lot of people were at the party and other events happening in the area Saturday night when Kamille was kidnapped. He added that he knows someone has video, cellphone video or information that could help find the child.

Robert Lowery, the Vice President of the missing children division, said they have a team from NCMEC on the ground in Birmingham helping out local law enforcement in many ways like researching data.

[...]

“It’s important we don’t assume the worst has happened. We’re not going to give up the search or give up hope to find Kamille alive and return her home to her family because that would be a great disservice. I think often time yes, time is the enemy when children are missing and we hope to find them and get them returned,” said Lowery. “The longer they’re away, the more likely they’re to be victimized, but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to find her and return her. We need to fully engage in reporting tips information.

[...]

He said the public’s role in helping find Kamille is huge.

“Please pay attention to the image of that child and the information that has been provided by the Birmingham Police Department and please don’t assume the worst has happened. We have to be actively looking for that child and another thing, someone out there has information on what happened to this child,” said Lowery. “They need to pick up that phone and call the Birmingham Police Department or they can call us at 1-800-THE-LOST but they need to get engaged. They need to be active. There is a family out there grieving and we have a child out there that needs our help.”

Massive apartment search following tip in Kamille McKinney disappearance ends with no sign of abducted girl
Birmingham police West Precinct officers first responded to an apartment complex in the 2700 block of Jefferson Avenue shortly before 9:30 a.m. Police and family members of Kamille said they received a couple of possible addresses where Kamille might be and this area is one of them.

[...]

As of about 11:45 a.m., police said they would likely do a unit-by-unit search at the complex.

[...]

Officers cleared each apartment to conduct a thorough search, during which time residents had to step outside. One of the residents was holding a small child, which led a crowd of more than 100 onlookers to erupt in cheers believing the girl was Kamille. Some media outlets reacted by announcing that Kamille had been found but she had not. Police said they searched every apartment unit and nearby vehicle.

Family members remained on the scene at the conclusion of the search to hand out flyer’s bearing Kamille’s photo.

'I'm not gonna stop': Why 1 woman refuses to give up search for 3-year-old
Days into the desperate search for an abducted 3-year-old Alabama girl, the head of a local missing persons group is refusing to stop -- because she said she's been in this family's shoes.

[...]

"I'm not gonna stop 'til I find this baby," Jasmaine Deloach, the head of Angel Arms Operation Exploited and Missing Persons in Birmingham, told ABC News on Wednesday. "I know how it feels."

Deloach said she started this organization after her 16-year-old daughter was a victim of human trafficking nearly five years ago. She said her daughter was later found states away. No one was arrested in her daughter's case, which is still under investigation.

[...]

Deloach said she learned from her daughter's case that often when kidnappers see the law enforcement and media presence intensifying, "they panic."

That's why at a Monday night vigil for Kamille, Deloach said she appealed directly with the unknown people who took the little girl, pleading, "She might not even remember who you are, so if you have any heart, please let her go."

[...]

Deloach said she's also talking with those in the community to try to get new information and putting up flyers at local businesses. She said she's hoping store clerks will rewind their surveillance tapes to review them for anything suspicious.
