Man detained after Kamille McKinney abduction is freed on bond
[...]

Patrick Devone Stallworth, 39, bonded out of the Jefferson County Jail at 3:22 a.m., according to jail records. His bond was set at $500,000 on seven child *advertiser censored* charges.

[...]

A preliminary hearing in the child *advertiser censored* cases is set for Nov. 12.

[...]

Birmingham attorney Emory Anthony was appointed Thursday as Stallworth’s attorney. He said he went to speak with him and learned he had been released from jail. Because he has not spoken with his client, Anthony said he could not comment further on the case.

[...]

Stallworth has no significant prior criminal record. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge in Butler County in 2004. He was arrested again in 2013 on a felony marijuana possession charged but it was dismissed.

Stallworth has not been charged in connection with the disappearance of the 3 year old, abducted from a birthday party on Saturday. The Jefferson County Commission today added $8,000 to the #CrimeStoppers reward to help get information on the child's location.

Fear and disbelief as neighborhood grapples with Kamille McKinney abduction
[...]

“Everybody is thinking the same thing,” he said. “Everybody just wants that baby to come back.”

QB hitched the child higher up into the saddle of his waist as he shook his head, struggling with incomprehension. Who would do such a thing? And why? Were they looking for money?

“This is the projects,” QB said. “This isn’t a three- or four-story house in the suburbs. Why would you steal a baby from the projects?”

[...]

Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith said investigators haven’t established a connection between Stallworth and the missing girl’s parents but do believe he and another woman are involved in the disappearance.

[...]

Because they happen so infrequently, stranger abductions grab headlines and stir fear. AL said McKinney’s disappearance has frightened families living in the complex. Her neighbor, a single father, told her he can’t sleep for fear that something might happen to his child. The mother on the other side won’t let her small children out of her sight.

[...]

The rumor mill has been working overtime, especially on social media, and Lockhart has heard several theories about the crime. Not all of them match information from police, who have said children at the party reported a man offering candy to children before taking McKinney.

[...]

RR lives on the other side of Avondale with her husband and two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, less than a mile from the scene of the disappearance. The case has kept her up nights.

“I’ve been making my daughter sleep in the bed with me,” RR said. “I won’t even let her play in my fenced backyard.”

The families of Tom Brown Village aren’t taking any chances. AQ lives in a unit across the alley from her niece and nephew.

“They can’ even walk from their apartment to mine right now,” AQ said.

Day 5 in search for Kamille 'Cupcake' McKinney turns up empty
This was day five in the search for Kamille "Cupcake" McKinney.

Five days in which this little three-year-old girl has been out of the arms of her loved ones.

[...]

We were at the police department's command center near the Tom Brown housing community, where the child was kidnapped Saturday night, all day waiting for any updates to the investigation.

[...]

At this point investigators still have not found a break in this case.

With each passing day the community becomes more concerned for cupcake's well being.

[...]

A spokesperson for Birmingham police said many people want to volunteer, but investigators say that is not what they need right now.

[...]

Retired FBI agent Jack Owens shared some insight, saying time is critical in an investigation like this one.

Owens said investigators will likely go back slowly through evidence that has been collected up to this point.

Fire officials tell us most fire stations across the country are considered safe places for children.

If Kamille was dropped off at one of their stations, they have strict guidelines to follow.

“Our employees will accept the child. Start to render any care if needed. Notify law enforcement, and our employees have been advised not to question, try to ascertain who the person is or start any type of investigation,” said Battalion Chief Sebastian Carrillo.

FBI: ’Every second counts’ for missing Alabama child Kamille 'Cupcake’ McKinney
It’s been six days since 3-year-old Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney disappeared from a Birmingham birthday party and experts say time is no friend to child abduction investigations.

[...]

Since day one, investigators have treated Kamille’s disappearance as a stranger abduction, though they say they have not ruled out any scenario. Such incidents grab headlines, but are rare in any city in the U.S.

[...]

The last time Birmingham experience anything close to Kamille’s disappearance was on Thanksgiving Day, 1993, when 6-year-old Peggy Chappell was seen getting into a van or SUV with a man who witnesses said kissed her on the cheek.

[...]

A medical examiner found no evidence Peggy was sexually assaulted, but police found a pornographic magazine next to her body in the garbage bag.

[...]

Her killing remains unsolved. Where Katie Chappell is today is not clear.

“From what our Behavior Analysts folks say, it’s not very common to have a 3-year-old abducted by a complete stranger,’’ said Birmingham’s FBI Special Agent in Charge Johnnie Sharp Jr. “When you’re looking at child predators who are looking to abduct a child for sexual purposes, those children tend to be older.”

[...]

The FBI mobilized its Child Abduction Rapid Deployment teams to Birmingham. “Any time you have a missing or abducted child, history has demonstrated that time is of the essence’’ Sharpe said. “Every minute, literally every second, counts -- especially when the child is abducted by a stranger.”

[...]

“When it’s truly an abduction by a stranger, 99 percent of the time it’s for nefarious purposes so we know generally it’s not going to have a happy ending.”

[...]

Though the FBI is acting in a supporting role to Birmingham police, the agency has opened its own kidnapping investigation as well. “The presumption is made whenever there is an abducted child that there’s the potential that they cross state lines,’’ Sharpe said. “That goes back decades when the FBI first got involved in kidnapping investigations going all the way back to the Lindbergh baby.”

[...]

In addition to the CARD team, the FBI has brought in the Behavioral Analysts team from Quantico. They have a psychology background and start analyzing facts of a case to build a profile of who investigators are likely looking for in terms of a suspect.

[...]

Thirdly, the FBI’s Evidence Response Team has assisted Birmingham in a number of searches already, most notably when an SUV sought in the case was recovered by police 24 hours after Kamille’s disappearance.

[...]

"If you’re dealing with a stranger abduction, history shows and case studies have documented, that the longer the time elapses between the time of the abduction and when the child is recovered, they typically don’t have a happy ending,’’ Sharpe said.

[...]

Sharpe said he doesn’t yet know how long the CARD team will stay in Birmingham.

“As long as we have enough leads to justify these resources, then we’ll keep going as long as we need to go,’’ he said. “As leads dry up, we will scale back our resources.”

Alabama community gathers to pray for abducted child’s safe return
Birmingham Police have been working tirelessly to bring KM “Cupcake” home.

While people across Alabama wait for good news , some say they’ve decided waiting isn’t enough.

“So you can only imagine what a person is going through with something like this. Our prayer is that whoever has cupcake, that they will return her safe and sound, unharmed. This is what we pray for tonight,” said BD, one of many who attended a prayer vigil last night for the abducted three-year-old.

This kidnapping has created a movement of hope, with church members meeting to pray for cupcake and her abductor.

[...]

Until someone comes forward, the community will be waiting, with heads bowed.
