Body found at Quanah Parker Lake not linked to missing persons

LAWTON, OK — Officials are waiting for autopsy results to determine how a man died at a lake in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.

Officials do not suspect foul play after a man was found dead at Quanah Parker Lake on Saturday.

According to the Comanche County Sheriff’s office, the man’s death has no connection to the two individuals still considered missing on the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.

There have been two missing persons on the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge with the first person reported missing on May 21 and the second on June 15. The vehicle of the first individual was found near Crater Lake, and the second was found at the Post Oak/Treasure Lake parking area. According to Refuge Manager Amber Zimmerman, the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge has done extensive searches on over 3,500 acres of land near where the vehicles were found with no sign of the individuals.

Stradley confirmed that the body has no relation to the two individuals still missing on the wildlife refuge.

“At this time, we have no new evidence regarding the missing persons,” said Stradley.

Refuge officials told 7News the areas were closed because a hiker at the refuge found human remains on Sunday, July 14.

Monday’s closure included the Treasure Lake and Post Oak parking area, Sunset Picnic Area, Charon Gardens Hiking Trail and Elk Mountain Hiking Trail.

Keith's truck was found parked at Crater Lake, the Fort Sill live fire range - which is supposedly near where he was found - is very close. Crater Lake to Live Fire Shoothouse (LFSH) Range

FORT SILL, Okla. (KSWO) - The Director Of Public Affairs at Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill is confirming the remains of Keith Carlson were found on July 27.
“The Fort Sill Directorate of Emergency Services, in collaboration with Oklahoma City Metro Search and Rescue, recovered human remains in a remote section of the Fort Sill training area adjacent to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge on July 27,” said Donald Herrick, Director of Public Affairs at Fires Center of Excellence and Fort Sill. “The Armed Forces Medical Examiner’s Office at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, has identified the remains as Keith Carlson.”
