:candle: RIP Evan.... Fly with the angels! :rose:

I can't stop thinking about him in that basement. I think they put him on that platform waiting for him to fall with the belt round his neck. That was pure torture they inflicted on that baby. Is there not a higher penalty for torture.
Rest peacefully little Evan now than you are in heaven getting all the hugs and love you deserve. :tears:

Sometimes there are cases here that just leave you speechless.....this is one of them. My heart aches for what he went through.

As dad tried to protect 3-year-old, mom and boyfriend were filming torture

A Wichita police affidavit released Wednesday reveals recorded and timestamped abuse of 3-year-old Evan Brewer on March 12 – almost six months before his body was found wrapped in a Ninja Turtle sheet and encased in concrete. The family now believes the recording occurred about two months before the boy died.

The affidavit shows that Evan suffered as his father’s family tried repeatedly to get the Kansas Department for Children and Families, Wichita police and judges to intervene for the boy, says Brewer family spokeswoman Shayla Johnston.

Although some police and one judge did everything they could to help Evan, the rest of the child protection system failed the boy, Johnston said Thursday. She is an attorney and a cousin of Evan’s father, Carlo Brewer.

The bbm reminds me of the Adrian Jones story where CPS failed him also.

This is why I hate getting involved in children's cases they are horrific and each one seems worse than the next. Too much sadness for this old women, it breaks my heart I can hardly read about them.

(Catching up on the posts)

Dammit -- somebody or a few should be fired for another one of these "slipped through the cracks" cruel and horrible deaths. SMH. It makes me want to slap somebody, and I have never done that in my life. Maddening and disgraceful. That sweet, fine, little human being.
Grrrrr.

Any update on what happened at the hearing on Jan, 11th, or does someone have the next court date?

TIA!

No, I have not heard a thing. It has been real quiet on Evans case.

The news has been all about Lucas Hernandez, Yesenia Sesmas, Caleb Gaston and Cody Chitwood.

Lucas is a missing 5 yr old. Step mom in jail for 2 counts of child endangerment.

Caleb Gaston, was a child care provider who worked at the Y and other places and assaulted children. Charges keep piling up with this guy.

Cody Chitwood was a teacher coach brought up on internet child *advertiser censored* charges. Heating was suppose to be yesterday but that has been quiet too.

Yesenia Sesmas, murdered the mom by taking the unborn fetus, claiming it as hers and fleeing to Texas. She was found sane and can stand for trial.

Wichita area has been busy.

I'll say!! I haven't seen any updates on Evan's case either!!

How awful. Reading this after Lucas Hernandez page (still missing). I would personally bring a gun to kill them if it was my child. How horrible.

Niner there are no updates for Evan Brewer, however, his family has been upfront with the way that DCF has handled investigations.

Finally, a step was taken. AS of last night the media reported, Bill Gale, the Wichita DCF Regional Director was "relieved'' from his position which he has had since 2014.

Please note different articles say Gale resigned, was dismissed, or relieved.

The Brewer Family does not think that Gale's dismissal/resignation/what ever really happened, will solve all the problems at the DCF.

"Until all of that program can be on the same page, we're not going to see adequate protection of children," said Evan's cousin and family lawyer, Shayla Johnston. "What we would prefer is there would be less governmental intrusion on what parents can do to protect their own children, and right now DCF isn't cooperating in being transparent and allowing parents that type of knowledge, so we can protect our kids."

Acting DCF Secretary Gina Meier Hummel issued a letter Tuesday afternoon stating the department decided to move in a different direction in the Wichita region.
So what is the different direction DCF wants to move in? Is DCF rules not the same for ALL of Kansas? I guess not.

Here are just two articles, there are more, that relate to Gales termination/resignation/or whatever.

"The state admits it made mistakes in the handling of the Evan Brewer case and acknowledged that a document in Evan’s file was altered, according to the family of the 3-year-old boy whose body was found encased in concrete in September.

The state mishandled a report of an allegation of severe abuse made just a few months before the child’s body was found and determined that no action was needed, according to documents the state released Friday. The report had not been forwarded to the main investigator as required, according to the documents."

Documents show Evan Brewer case not properly handled before his death

"WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – In documents released to KSN, the Department for Children and Families admitted that it did not properly handle the case of Evan Brewer in the months before his death was discovered."

Snip

"Late Friday, DCF officials delivered 284 pages of documents relating to those open record requests that detail how the agency handled allegations of abuse and neglect involving Brewer..."

*much more at link

“"Changes to strengthen the system have already begun, and I vow these will continue,” Secretary Gina Meier-Hummel said in a press release released to KSN with the documents, late Friday. “These reforms include, but are not limited to, personnel, policies, procedures and training. Personnel will be held accountable. Policies and procedures will be updated, improved and strongly enforced. Mandatory training will occur.”

KSN has reached out to DCF representatives to ask questions about the documents, how the agency handled the case and specifically how the agency is responding to its finding of errors in the case. The calls and emails were made after business hours, and as yet, KSN has not received a response."

Please pardon my language/rant but this PISSES ME OFF!!!! If they can't even get the former mayor's grandkid's case right, when it comes to life or death, how many other cases have they missed???

And I'm stopping there because the rest of what I want to say violates TOS, but suffice it to say that I don't put full blame on the caseworkers/front line.
