GUILTY KS - Kelsey Smith, 18, abducted & murdered, Overland Park, 2 June 2007

This is where I'll post the info from the sentencing hearing. The LWOP was handed down at the hearing, so I suspect this will just be the formal end to that, but there's the other charges that have a varying degree of times that could be given. Not that those will really matter...he's going to spend the rest of his life in prison.

Tuesday, September 16 will mark the end of the Kelsey Smith case with the sentencing of Edwin Hall to life in prison without the possibility of parole. It starts at 1:30 PM. Greg Smith will speak there and requests that those who attend wear blue.

As the Hall case has been archived, I am setting this up for discussion of the sentencing.

Wish I could be there. I followed this case when it was happening...when Kelsey was missing.

:(

Thank you so much Armand.

Bless the Smith family.

Greg Smith posted this update:

The sentencing hearing for Kelsey's murderer will be held at the Johnson County Courthouse on September 16, 2008 at 1:30 PM. Anyone may attend and we encourage all those that do to wear blue in honor of Kelsey. The family will address the court at this hearing.

Due to the expectation of a large gallery in the courtroom, the hearing will be held in Division 11, located on the third floor of the Johnson County Courthouse. Judge Ruddick will still be the presiding judge.

Thank you Armand...I am so glad that the Smith's will finally be able to see Hall sentenced.

Also thank you for notifying me of this thread. I'll be watching for the updates tomorrow.

Peace my friend

I don't think I am going to be able to make it to the sentencing today. It's possible, but unlikely. Hall was given LWOP and waived his right to appeal his conviction for the murder of Kelsey Smith (this back in July, I believe). There are 3 or 4 other charges that he'll receive his sentence for today.

I don't know if Hall will speak or not today. There was article in the paper the other day in which Hall's attorney said he didn't know if Hall would speak to the family.

There's one thing that I've never heard clarification on and that's the letter that Hall gave to the Smith family earlier in the year. I thought this was strange. It's possible that the contents of this letter may be discussed. Or maybe not.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Smith family.

Thanks for the link TG..I hope to be able to watch atleast parts of it..I know Luv's and Armand will keep us updated.

I watched all of today's proceedings at Starbucks (I remembered my headphones this time) and it was a great effort to keep from tearing up.

I am so glad Stevie Smith addressed Althea Hall. It needed to be said.

I am in tears right now. I didn't get to see the whole sentencing trial. I was able to watch from the time Missy was speaking until the time they were leaving the court. Just to sad and agonizing watching the grief these people have to bear and the beautiful memories they have, and knowing they can never hug her or hold her in their arms again.

I missed that part. When you have a chance maybe let us know what went on prior to Missy's heartfelt thoughts.

I will post a full blog on this tomorrow. But essentially, Kelsey's aunt Mel, brother (through his dad) and sisters addressed the court. Each expressed their grief in detail. But I was most impresed with Stevie's anger at Hall and how Althea could just sit there behind her husband.

They also pitied Hall's son on being the son of a murderer. He, too, is a victim of this crime.

I almost lost it during the video. I was able to maintain (except for my runny nose) only through great effort. I hope they make that video available for sale to help the foundation.

Thanks Armand..that would be greatly appreciated. The news video maybe on again later as a reg video on the news station site.

Does anyone know if there be a video available soon for us to view?

Thank you! I'll be back tomorrow so follow up.

Darn. I posted the info about the video on the old thread that WC started. You can watch the replay here (see below).
