Isnt that where he should be??

No, Edwin was not tried in the Federal Courts. He was convicted in the Kansas Court System (the Kansas Statutes). If he'd have been tried in the Federal system, he'd had been charged by the Feds and tried in KCK and IMO, he'd be on death row in Leavenworth. Club Fed is what I wanted for Hall. But "Hell" Dorado will do just fine. (Good one Armand-hadn't heard that before!) It's possible that he may be transferred to another facility at some point. If there's problems with him, or other prisoners with him, sometimes they move them around.

Here's the list of state prisons:

El Dorado Correctional Facility
Ellsworth Correctional Facility in Ellsworth, Kansas
Hutchinson Correctional Facility
Lansing Correctional Facility
Larned Correctional Facility
Norton Correctional Facility
Topeka Correctional Facility
Winfield Correctional Facility

In addition to the federal prison in Leavenworth, there's also Ft. Leavenworth prison which is the Army prison.

I believe the "BTK" killer, Dennis Rader, is serving his time in El Dorado.

Edited because my brain is thinking one thing, and my fingers are typing another.

Kansas City Star Editorial:

Legal chapter closes on Kelsey Smith murder

A life sentence has sent Edwin Hall off to the hard, anonymous confines of prison. He is ineligible for parole and unlikely to be heard from again by this community.

What should live on is the memory of Kelsey Smith, the vibrant young woman whom Hall abducted in the parking lot of a Target store in Overland Park. Searchers found her body near Longview Lake four days later.

Smith, 18, had graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School 10 days before she was killed on June 2, 2007. She was headed for Kansas State University that fall.

Her murder triggered an interest in safety seminars and self-defense courses. They, too, should be sustained.

Smith became a crime victim while running a routine errand in a suburb usually thought of as safe. Hall’s attack was a reminder of the need for constant vigilance. The teenager’s parents, Greg and Missey Smith, have started the Kelsey Smith Foundation. Among other things, it produces safety seminars and sponsors self-defense courses. Participants learn that it took Hall only 16 seconds to surprise Smith, shove her into her car and drive away.

A similar effort is the “TAKE Defense” program established by the family of Ali Kemp, the Leawood teenager who was murdered while working at a swimming pool in 2002. The program teaches women how to keep themselves safe.

With the sentencing of Hall, a chapter in a tragic story is finished. One way for people to honor Kelsey Smith’s memory is to learn how to decrease their own chances of becoming crime victims.

Missey and Greg Smith have demonstrated grace throughout their terrible ordeal. Their enduring gift is to use a family’s tragedy to help protect others.

Oh i understand. Thanks.

BTK was Dennis Rader i thought?!

You're right! That's what I meant to post. Getting old is a bummer. :)

I've had Robinson on my mind today which is probably why I typed his name. In the paper today there is an obituary for a man with the last name Stasi. I wondered if this man was any relation to the Stasi that Robinson murdered (he gave her baby to a relative of his, I believe). I went to school with a gal that had the last name Rader and I've always wondered if DR was related to DR. At any rate, thanks for catching my error.

Tell ya what Armand. I am glad that Kelsey's sister adressed that chick. Thank the good Lord I don't have family that are murderers. I can't say either way if I did weather I would support them or not. However, you go into a court room and freakin act the way this woman did I don't know how someone didn't tune her tail up. Laughing in a courtroom when there's someone's child murdered? No matter who did it.

Personally I'd think this woman is not right in the head. I mean why would you do that. Plus your husband pleads guilty, finally and you still show? Write him a letter. Accept his collect call. Sit there behind him?

What struck me is Kelsey's mom said that he'll get to see his son. They will never see Kelsey again. I mean he can talk to the child on the phone. Receive his little art work. Kelsey will never give the Smith's grandbabies that could do that. :furious:

Times like this I see why my mom and grandmom didn't sit in a trial. Like they said it would never bring Pop back. Just seeing the creeps picture in the paper and hearing all their woes made me ill enough let alone in person.

All so senseless. Plain senseless and sad.

Armand, I'm going to read your Blog. May Kelsey rest in peace.

I'm sure I'll be flamed for this. . .but I take offense at anyone attacking Mrs. Hall. What CRIME has she committed. I watched the hearings and I saw smiles, laughter, and banter on both sides of the courtroom.

I believe with all my heart that laughter was a nervous response to an impossible situation. None of us know how we would react to someone we love being convicted of murder, all she is guilty of is loving someone.

I am not posting to defend or debate anything to do with the convicted, but I think people need to leave those on the fringe of the situation out of their rants.

Newsjunkie, I don't think anyone would flame you for your opinion.

No one will flame you for posting. You're as entitled to your opinion, as I am mine. I just happen to be on the opposite side of the fence as you are.

You're right, we're all entitled to our own opinions here and no one will flame someone for a differing opinion. That's what's nice about this place. We can all have our own opinions.

IMO, Hall's wife showed zero compassion for the Smith family. She laughed it up and yukked it up...and so did the Smith family. However, it wasn't a member Smith family on trial for brutally raping, sodomizing and strangling Kelsey. And once Hall admitted his guilt, she not once offered any sympathy to the Smith family. I suppose it's not written anywhere that she has to "behave" in a certain way, and she chose to act as if she was at a Tupperware Party. It was totally disrespectful and I felt badly for the Smith family.

I feel nothing but sadness for Hall's child. I don't know what's going on in Althea's brain, but you'd think for the sake of the child, she'd have dumped Hall and gotten as far away from him as possible. I honestly can't really remember another spouse sticking by her "man" like she did in a situation like this. Usually a mother's love is so strong that she'd want to get her child as far away as she could from a monster like Hall. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if she visited Hall in prison.

Thank you for your post, Luvs.

I'd say considering that you were present in court all those times and saw with your own two eyes more than once this behavior your opinion is spot on.

If Althea had shown an ounce of sympathy for the Smith family, I might feel differently about her, but she didn't and I don't. IMO, her actions and attitude speaks volumes about the type of person she is. When Althea would yuk it up, my stomach would flip over and over. Talk about no compassion for the Smith family.

Filly,

I hope all is well with you. I've taken time away from the forum since Hall was sentenced. I still think about Kelsey all the time. I can't drive past the mall or Target without thinking about Kelsey. I drove past there today, and my mind always wanders to the same place...thoughts about Kelsey and how this should not have happened. Kelsey should be in her sophomore year at K-State. Football season is going strong...and she should be out there marching in the band and enjoying college life. I just have no sympathy for Hall or his wife. My heart does go out to their child.

Just happend to see this case on see no evil ...watch this follow her around target fully knowing what he was gonna do is enough to make me sick I hope to all HEll someone has made him Miss;s Hall in his 6 by 8 jail cell for 23 hours aday cause you deserve that Edwin..
