I can't believe that someone(s) can commit such a horrific murder and get away with it. I would not have thought he/they were such masterminds that they thought of everything and managed to not leave enough clues to catch him/them. To me, they had to know the husband was out in a nearby field, but were either brave or crazy enough to follow through. Has it ever been determined if anything was taken?

I remember reading that they thought a bracelet may have been taken, but found it a few weeks later.

I don't know if they know about the dogs.

Just an FYI: in another thread here on WS, there is a retired man who has been missing for almost 2 months now but...one of the grandaughters has become a VI
and has bravely tried to answer all our questions. What a help that has been to us and to her family.

I wish someone from the Heimer family would do the same.

Community prays for answers in unsolved murder

It's been nearly 11 months since her murder, and still few clues about who killed Lori Heimer. The mother of four was found dead by family members, killed in her Assaria home last June.

"It feels like it's been forever, but it feels like it was just yesterday," says Lori's daughter, Joni Alexander.

Katie Eberle, another daughter of Lori's, says coping with her mother's unsolved death has been "like being in an ocean."

"There's some days when its calm and you can take a breath, and some days you feel like you're in a hurricane," she says.

An idea from a stranger in the community is helping keep Lori's memory alive. The idea: 40 days of prayer, asking for healing and for answers.

"It just kept pressing on my heart that the community needed to come together and pray together," says Regina Henry, leading th Thursday night prayer services.

Maybe this sounds silly but I hope they've left posters of Lori everywhere. Solomon, Gypsum, the north side of town, bars, truckstops, dog news magazines.

I wonder if the unknown person who stopped at Lori's without an appointment a week before her murder was actually scoping out the place?

But why go to all that trouble
for money when there has to be easier ways to get money.

Did she mentor any troubled boys or girls? That sounds like something she would do.

Did she normally let buyers into her house? Why would she do that? Unless it was someone she knew or trusted.

To this day, I STILL see flyers all over Salina and I hope they stay up until an arrest is made. Hard to believe that we're just a little less than three weeks from it being a full year. Just doesn't seem right that someone hasn't been caught or someone hasn't come forward with the tip investigators need to find a suspect. I'm anticipating that Lori will be in the media again soon with the approaching anniversary. Maybe that's exactly what this case needs...to be out there again to get people talking. Seems like there hasn't been anything lately. We all need to make sure that Lori is not forgotten. She deserves justice. Her family deserves closure.

Case remains unsolved year after Assaria woman's murder

Facts we know about this case

The KBI is investigating Heimer's death as a homicide. Investigators believe that the person responsible for her death may have been connected to her dog-breeding business. Heimer was known for her business in several areas including in Wichita and Kansas City.

Investigators are also looking for two vehicles they believe may be connected to the case. The first is a maroon, flatbed truck with a white bumper and wide mirrors. The second is a blue pickup, possibly a Chevy S-10 with animal cages in the back.

I attended the candle light vigil for Lori last night. It was beautiful. Had a chance to visit with her four wonderful daughters and her husband. You could feel Lori's spirit in that room. I'm hoping this case solved soon. This wonderful family deserves that closure.

So glad you went Terry.

This case is really something. I wonder why they feel so certain it was someone connected to the dog business. There must be calls on her phone?! I suspect there is stuff they are not telling us.

I think I mentioned that on another case/thread the granddaughter of a missing person has joined us as a VI. What a difference it makes. She is determined to find out what happened and of course, we are too! Wish one of the Heimer daughters would come on board.
There are so many sharp minds here.

Well, anyway, thanks for reporting back.

Here is a blog of an owner and breeder from the Midwest. Interesting to read. It also contains the NBC Dateline article and after that, the writer talks about drones being flown over her home by the anti puppymill people.

Interesting about the drones.
The complainer has this unofficial “KANSAS PUPPY MILL MAP”

It appears there are bigger fish to fry.
If Lori was a target, I do wonder why.

Well, in thinking about this, maybe Lori was chosen because she allowed people in her home with no one else around.
(And I am no way faulting her for that!)

The blogger above made it very clear that if you want a puppy, a meeting place (public) will be established and she'll meet you there w/ the puppy. None of this coming to the house sort of thing.

Maybe in this day and age, that's a wise decision.

Off topic, but you are correct IMO. I recently sold a used car, people came to my house 2 times, trip to notary and it worked out. BUT before these folks, I had 3 separate people looking, scared me to death!
Never again will I sell anything out of my home.

I saw the flyer in a Casey's in Concordia - I would pass thru there on my way to and from Oklahoma. I've been checking into this case here and there.

I realize that living in fear is not a pleasant way of life, but I cannot tell you how many times I've heard people say "It is so nice in *insert town*, I still don't lock my car or house doors." I started looking at old newspapers, early 1900's, etc., and I saw articles about mysterious murders, disappearances, crimes. I've just accepted that in any day and age or location, its probably better to err on the side of caution.

I started another thread to today on the murder of a young man who was killed in his rural Kansas home about 30 minutes or so north of Lori's home. His family has said his dog is missing and that reminded me of Lori. There is nothing to suggest the cases are connected, but this family needs closure too. Please take a look...

I made this connection as well--although they are separated by a year, they're so close geographically. The victim in this recent case was an avid hunter while the man arrested for his murder was very politically outspoken in regards to animal rights, including puppy mills!
