Bottom line.. if he was in a Head Start Pre-k classroom and had attendance issues. If the family worker was doing her job, she would have been ‘white on Rice.’ But like every other job with Head Start.....overwhelmed and under paid.

Although I know we won't likely find this out...
I'd like to know what his day was like up until 3?
Did they go to a store and Lucas said to the salesperson "We are going to the park!"
Salesperson recognized Lucas from that encounter and reported that to LE.
Just guessing some more...

He wasn't in Head Start, he was in the district's Pre-K program. According to their site, Pre-K is for children 4yo on or before the official start of the school year (Aug 31). Head Start is for children younger then 4yo. He probably didn't have a family worker.

The parents of Lucas Hernandez's stepmother have issued a statement regarding the little boy's disappearance.

"We just want Lucas home safe. We are asking for everyone's prayers and support. We would like to thank everyone that have been so supportive," reads the statement.

Tuesday afternoon, Wichita police and investigators from the FBI were back in the neighborhood where the five-year-old was last seen.

His step-grandparents acknowledged the fact that everyone wants answers and wants to know where the little boy could be.

"We know everyone is anxious for answers, as are we. Please understand that this has turned our lives upside down and we ask that our privacy is respected. Even though law enforcement hasn't been able to provide much information to the public, please trust that they are doing everything in their power to bring Lucas home."

I don't believe the parents. I don't believe him missing, I believe him dead.

Someone wayyy back wondered about RSOs in the area. I'm not sure if someone answered or not, but this is what I found.
I don't know his exact house number, so the blue house symbol might be off by a block or so.

ETA: Oh shoot. You'll have to put in the address yourself.

I am not sure if this is allowable by the rules due to the site source, but I saw the Zillow posting of the new house (assuming bought by the now landlord), and the marketing blurb states a fully fenced backyard. So a 5 year old got out the back door, and also a gate, and wandered off? That makes me even more skeptical.

:welcome:

I've been following since day one and may have missed this somehow but has the father or stepmother made s public statement at all? I just read the step grandparents and know that bio mom made a plea to the public.

There are small gates that close, but that doesn’t stop someone from getting in if they want in. Let me see if I can find a picture.

This is so completely morbid that I hate saying it.. but it is not uncommon for there to be people with large wagons in the park. You could sneak a body in during the day if you really wanted to.

The park is quite spread out. On a normal day there (which I am there often) you may only see a hand full of people pass by. The further back you go the less people you see as parents with small kids don’t make it too far before the kids are tired.

Yeah if anybody was going to do anything they would likely go in on the entrance on Oliver (which does happen to be the Chisolm Creek area). Generally unless a group of people are having a barbeque you can be unnoticed in that part of the park. I still don't think anyone would attempt to bury a body there but if they were searching the park for evidence of a crime that would be the section to look at.

I'm probably reading too much into this but doesn't this statement seem crafted? It seems whenever the FBI CARD unit is involved in a disappearance of a child some family member releases this exact same statement.

Dad and Bio-Mom wouldn't be on camera (????) but did give a statement to a reporter who read it on-air. Unless I missed something today, which is possible.

The only thing holding me back on this is that Influenza and other illnesses have hit the area hard. For a kid to be out for a week, especially with other youngsters in the home, would likely not be blinked at in this area right now.

Could the water be frozen solid right now? I saw several pages back someone posted it has been in the 20's there and they had freezing rain. Perhaps it's not possible to search the ponds safely right now?

There may be a thin sheet of ice over it now as the temp has dropped but it was 70 degrees this weekend.

Hey Gardener - Tippy Lynn in post 498 says frozen ice doesn't stop them in MN.
I think we are perceiving no interest in water areas....curious why.

That's weird to me. I think I would be saying, "Ask me anything. Let me tell you all about my baby and his life."

They may not know a ton about him. This is the father's girlfriend's parents. It doesn't sound like a family where anyone has a great dynamic, so I don't imagine they were all spending Sunday afternoons together having lunch. I come from a good background with strong family ties, and have dated people with kids, and I am certain my mom wouldn't have felt comfortable speaking about those people's kids publicly.

O/T, I joined a FB group page for Lucas that apparently doesn't have the rules that we have here. With that being said, I have read a post or 2 from here that I think may have come from there that would not be allowed here. (please don't ask me who it was, I didn't take names) anyway, I have backed out of that group not only because they are making accusations that are not confirmed but also to make sure I don't post something I heard from there thinking it was actually from here ( confusing myself now, hence my issue) Just want to make sure that others who may be following that group to be careful not to bring anything over here that is not MSM. I would hate to loose any of our great people.
I'm still there, but getting frustrated at the overall hatred.

I’m going back to finding dirt under someone’s nails. Possibly someone who later used gardening as an excuse?

MOO.

Gardening as an excuse, imo, was given out by a 3rd party

I agree they would most likely enter through Oliver as there seems to be less traffic. That being said— they would have a longer walk to deep water if that’s what they were searching for...

Or they did this at night. Parked in Home Depot’s parking lot, crossed Woodlawn, and dumped the body. They wouldn’t have to walk but 100-200 yards in that scenario..

I'm in a climate similar to Witchita, and only shallow lakes are going to freeze solid, and this has been an unseasonably mild winter. I know people aren't able to ice fish because it hasn't been cold enough, and I expect there is the same. So if frozen, it's only the top, and SAR divers can get through that easily.

No, North Carolina Head Start is for 3 to 5 year olds. PreK children, can be in a Head Start classroom or an exclusive Pre K program. Early Head Start is birth through 3.

That's true. But I don't really see people carrying a body across Woodlawn. If they killed him and wanted to bury him somewhere just driving out to the middle of the country and burying him would be the much safer play than doing it at the Nature Center.
