According to Public Information Officer Kate Flavin Wichita’s Forensics Science Unit, the results couldn’t determine how little Lucas died, due to advanced decomposition. The manner and cause of death have been listed as “undetermined.” X-rays performed did not find any skeletal trauma.

Sheryl McCollum, a language expert, CSI, and Director of Atlanta’s Cold Case Investigative Research Institute, analyzed the 911 call made on February 17 by Emily Glass, the caretaker of 5-year-old Lucas Hernandez when he disappeared from his Wichita home, and the live-in girlfriend of Lucas’ father, Jonathan Hernandez.

Jonathan Hernandez, father of Kansas boy Lucas Hernandez, was admitted into a Wichita hospital Saturday evening after his son’s public memorial.

“He has an abscess in his throat which is making it almost impossible to swallow and they are worried about his breathing,” Cyndi Norman, Hernandez’s mother explained to CrimeOnline. “He went to the ER Saturday evening and they thought it might be tonsillitis, so they gave him and antibiotic and something for pain. By 3 a.m. it was worse, so he went back to the ER and they ran blood work.”

So far, according to Norman, doctors aren’t quite sure what the problem is, but plan to perform a CT scan on Tuesday if Hernandez’s condition hasn’t improved.

Remembering Lucas Hernandez one year after his disappearance
Today marks the one-year anniversary of the disappearance of Lucas Hernandez.

The five-year-old boy was reported missing from his Wichita home and his disappearance remained a mystery for months until his story came to a tragic end in Harvey County.

Today his parents and the volunteers who searched for him stopped by the site that is now a dedicated memorial to the boy's life.

Gifts and memories are placed at the site for the boy that captivated the hearts of many in Wichita and across Kansas.

KSN's Sara Berlinger spoke with Lucas' father, Jonathan Hernandez today. Hear more from him tonight on KSN News at 10:00.
