Found Deceased KS - Marilane Carter, 36, Overland Park, enroute to Birmingham, 2 Aug 2020 #2

I think what leaves me unsatisfied is the feeling that Marilane may have been written off as "suicidal" when it was actually an accidental death under unusual circumstances. A lot of people, perhaps even authorities, want to actively not blame her family and I agree. When it comes to mental health there's really no black and white - doubly so when the person is gone. We'll simply never know how aware she was of the consequences of what she was doing but we should all make note that simply being alone (especially away from home) during a time of crisis is dangerous.

It’s just so bizarre. As a suicide it seems off because it seems impulsive, like she just happened across storage containers that weren’t on her direct route. I don’t think carbon monoxide poisoning is the worst way to commit suicide, but the manner in which it was done seems so odd. But I’m a planner, I’d want to plan this out better.

Would there be any other reason she would have gone in the storage container other than to die? I’m trying to imagine scenarios that I’d drive into one, this is what I’ve come up with....hail storm, hiding from someone, and that’s all I can think of at the moment.

According to MC's mom, MC was sleep-deprived, feeling anxious, and planned to seek mental help at a hospital she once worked at in Birmingham. The purpose of her trip to Birmingham was said to be with her sister giving birth and seeing a therapist she trusted.

Reportedly, MC checked into a hotel in the evening but left after only a couple of hours. If she was struggling to sleep and took an Rx sleep aid, I could see her driving her car inside the shipping container but not to commit suicide. Bizarre behavior that to me seems drug-induced. MOO

Makes me wonder if she was prescribed Ambien. There have been some horror stories acquainted with that medication. My hubby was prescribed it and stopped taking it when it caused, very real to him, hallucinations. Thinking he was writing in a journal, but was actually writing on our wall. Eating leftovers and not remembering it. The one that made him refuse to take it anymore was when he swore he had a conversation with a friend of ours and her daughter, that definitely couldn't have happened, because both had been deceased for 1 year and 8yrs, respectively.

I agree and looking forward to the toxicology test results which I think might shed some light on what was happening in MC's life last August. I understand the determination her was carbon monoxide poison but I want the lab results.

MOO

I know this is an old thread but didn't see this posted here. Later in 2020, the uncle who found Marilane was served a warrant at his house and committed suicide.
Breaking: Uncle who found body and car of Marilane Carter dead of apparent suicide in Kansas after search warrant served at his house (watchkeep.blogspot.com)

I haven't seen any follow-up since, but this whole case never sat right with me. (I looked it up to refresh my memory after scrolling through a friend's page on Facebook and seeing an old post about Marilane.)

Is there any actual MSM with this news though?

I never understood the situation with the uncle being the one who searched for her. That's hinky to me. Could be he was chasing her? It would explain her checking into a hotel, then checking out again a short time later.

If LE had reason to be suspicious of him, they should have pursued the case to a conclusion regardless of whether he committed suicide. The conclusion of that investigation should be public information.

As someone familiar with BNSF operations, its quite a coincidence she was found in this location. I wasn't aware any of her family members worked for them. West Memphis is a big center of their operations. Oddly, all of her stops along the way were in BNSF areas of operation - Rolla and West Plains, MO. Destination of Birmingham, AL is also a major BNSF operations center. May just be a coincidence?

I remember seeing this on Twitter. Even if it was a suicide I don’t understand why the search warrant isn’t public. It seems that triggered the suicide. It would tell us so much about what happened. There were so many off and hinky facts about this case. When I came across this I felt like the suicide and his employer validated my feeling that this situation was very OFF.

ETA - this whole situation makes me sad. I hope her husband and his family keeps her memory alive for those children.

This was the death report on the uncle that Amy Smith received from Johnson County.

Without hard documentation on the warrant reports, I'm still unsure. I agree, it seems very strange for an uncle to find her at such a seemingly random location.

The incident date is October 15, 2020. It doesn't even list the name of the deceased person. Not doubting the veracity, but it seems unusual that so little information is included in the report. It only says its a report of an unattended death. Doesn't say male or female, etc.

If a SW was issued, it had to be signed by a judge. One would think there would be a record of that.

The time shows the incident began at 10:40 and ended 4 hrs later at 14:42.
I wonder if there was anything on the police scanner about it? Johnson County Sheriff Dept or Johnson County Park Police (they were the ones who filed the report.)

Yes this whole situation was weird and off. I remember seeing this about the uncle too. Do we know what the SW was regarding?

Can you tell me what BNSF is? I probably should know!
