KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The father of a 3-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, girl enters a plea for his role in her death.

As part of a plea deal, Howard Jansen III pleaded “no contest” to second degree murder, abuse of a child under 6, and two counts of aggravated endangering a child on February 11.

Jansen originally faced a first-degree murder charge in the death of his daughter, Olivia.

Friday, March 25th:
*Sentencing Hearing (@ 1:30pm CT) - KS – Olivia Ann Jansen (3) (reported missing July 10, 2020 from her home on Gibbs Rd, Kansas City; July 11, 2020: her body was found not far from 34th & Steele Road after getting a tip of a body off a trail in a shallow grave covered with sticks & brush. The area is just on the other side of Interstate 635, slightly north of Shawnee Drive from where police searched most of the day after 9 hours after she was reported missing.) - *Howard Jansen III (29/now 30) “father” arrested (7/11/20), charged (7/13/20) & arraigned (1/26/21) with 1st degree murder, aggravated endangering a child (reckless situation to child under 18 & criminal desecration (unauthorized control of a dead body). $500K Cash or Surety Bond. Plead not guilty.
Trial was set to begin on 5/22/22 cancelled due to plea of “no contest” on 2/11/22.

*Jacqulyn Amanda Kirkpatrick (33/now 34) – plead guilty (11/3/21), sentenced on 12/20/21 to 31 years & 3 months in prison.
 
KANSAS CITY, Ks. (KCTV) - A Kansas City, Ks., man convicted of killing his three-year-old daughter is scheduled to be sentenced Friday afternoon in Wyandotte County.

Howard Jansen III pleaded guilty last month in the death of Olivia Jansen, who was killed in July 2020.

An AMBER Alert had been issued, as police and community members frantically searched for Olivia. Her body was found later that day in a wooded area of KCK hours after her father reported her missing.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The father of a 3-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, girl was sentenced Friday to nearly three decades for his role in her murder.

A Wyandotte County judge sentenced Howard Jansen III to 29 years in prison Friday. The sentencing came a month after Jansen pleaded “no contest” to second-degree murder and abuse of a child.

The plea and sentence were part of a deal with prosecutors. Jansen originally faced a first-degree murder charge in the death of his daughter, Olivia.

Jansen pleaded no contest last month to charges of second-degree murder, child abuse, aggravated child endangerment and interfering with a law enforcement investigation. His girlfriend, Jacqulyn Kirkpatrick, is serving a 31-year prison sentence after pleading guilty in November to second-degree murder and interfering with a law enforcement investigation.

Police found the body of Olivia Jansen on July 10, 2020, hours after Jansen had reported her missing. An autopsy found she had signs of physical abuse and had died of a brain bleed. The girl's killing touched off an internal investigation of the Kansas Department for Children and Families.
