Thursday, Nov. 19th:
*Bond Hearing for both (@ 9am CT) - KS – Olivia Ann Jansen (3) (reported missing July 10, 2020 from her home on Gibbs Rd, Kansas City; July 11, 2020: her body was found not far from 34th & Steele Road after getting a tip of a body off a trail in a shallow grave covered with sticks & brush. The area is just on the other side of Interstate 635, slightly north of Shawnee Drive from where police searched most of the day after 9 hours after she was reported missing.). *Howard Jansen III (29) “father” arrested (7/11/20) & charged (7/13/20) with 1st degree murder, aggravated endangering a child (reckless situation to child under 18 & criminal desecration (unauthorized control of a dead body. $500K Bond.
*Jacqulyn Amanda Kirkpatrick (33) arrested (7/12/20 & charged (7/13/20) 1st degree murder, aggravated endangering a child (reckless situation to child under 18 & criminal desecration (unauthorized control of a dead body. $500K Bond.
The father told investigators he saw her Thursday at about 11pm, when he went to sleep, and when he woke up at 5:30am, he noticed she was gone, and the front door was open. (previously said back door). Did not report her missing until 8:30am. LE said father came in to the police station to report her missing. When Olivia's body was found it was apparent to anyone that saw her that she suffered great physical abuse. Her face, arms & legs were all covered in bruises. Olivia's body was covered in bruises from head to toe & died of a brain bleed.
7/28/20 Update: Initial appearance. Next hearing on 8/26/20. 8/26/20 Update: A Wyandotte County judge held a hearing on the case Wednesday & said he would rule within the next two weeks if the public should see the full case file (533 pages), after open records requests were filed by KMBC 9 News & other media outlets after the girl's death. Both the prosecution & defense argued before Judge Michael Russell against the release of the full case file, saying it could jeopardize a fair trial. Next hearing on 9/15/20. 9/15/20 Update: no update on what happened. Next court date is status hearing on 10/29/20.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Howard Jansen, charged with killing his three-year-old daughter, Olivia Jansen, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday morning.

Jansen waived his right to a preliminary hearing, which would not require the prosecution to present evidence to go forward.

The hearing took place virtually in Wyandotte County court division 4 with District Court Judge Michael Russell presiding.

Jansen's girlfriend, Jacqulyn Kirkpatrick, is also charged in Olivia's death.

Deputy District Attorney Crystalyn Ellis mentioned jailhouse phone calls between Jansen and Kirkpatrick at this week's hearing that the prosecution has requested to access.

A virtual status hearing for Jansen is scheduled for Feb. 17 at 10:30 a.m.
