I'm thinking it won't take too long to id them, at least I hope not! I looked at a map and there are bodies of water around there, but I'm assuming the creek would be too shallow to hide a car.

His dna is available so if it is him it should take no time. I’m obsessed with a UID case where is suspected as a possibility. This could help narrow things down.

Fingers crossed. Anyone know what would bring Randy this far away from home if it was him? Did he have a girlfriend he wanted to go see and drove off into the water?

Well, it could be that he met with foul play. That has been alluded if you look into the case more. At any rate, hopefully answers are forthcoming as to who this is. I'm not aware of any girlfriend. There are several videos by Adventures with Purpose on u.t. of searches in local bodies of water and interviews with his parents as well as one of last persons, a friend, to interact with him at the outdoor party that night.

Frustrating that the remains haven’t been identified but I’d think if they were Randy’s then his car would have been found, too.
I was thinking the same thing. I looked to see if they had any updates on the remains online and I haven't seen anything since the remains were first found in Feburary.

''KMBC 9 Investigates is looking back at the disappearance of Randy Leach, who was 17 years old when he vanished from Leavenworth County, Kansas, in 1988.''
''An age-progression photo was created to show what he might have looked like in his late 20s. No physical evidence has ever been found in this case.''

''On April 15, 1998, Leach went out with friends to enjoy a Friday night.

He checked out a '66 Mustang he was having restored and hung out on the street in nearby Linwood, Kansas. Then wound up at a party in rural Leavenworth County.

That’s when Leach’s mother says he just disappeared.

"I need to find out what happened," Alberta Leach said.

Friends of the teen at the party tell her he seemed upset. They asked him what was wrong, and Leach said he didn't know.

Nobody saw him drinking. Nobody saw him leave. Nobody's seen him since.''

''A reward of $5,000 is being offered for information that brings Randy Leach's case to a close.

"I’ve got to have hope. Got to have it. I've had it for 35 years, and I still have to have it. Dwindles, but you still have to have hope." Alberta Leach said.''

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — Randy Leach disappeared after a pre-graduation party at a rural farm in Leavenworth County on April 16, 1988. Since then his disappearance has been a mystery.

The Leach family gathered in front of the Leavenworth County Courthouse Wednesday with a plea to local law enforcement to re-look into their case.

Three decades have passed and Randy’s mom Alberta Leach is holding on to hope her son will be found.

In this episode of Inside Kansas Politics, Deneysha Richard sits down with Alberta Leach, who has been searching for her son, Randy Leach, for almost 35 years.

[...]

She says the fight for answers became even more challenging after her husband died in 2021. Still, Alberta continued the fight for answers regarding her son’s disappearance.

After expressing discontent with the Leavenworth Co. Sheriff’s office’s handling of the case, Alberta Leach says she reached out to Kansas legislators and got nowhere. She says she gained a sense of renewed hope after Governor Laura Kelly took office in 2019.

She hand-delivered two letters to the administration, hoping to receive an out-of-state special master task force to look into her son’s case.

She says she has not heard back from the Governor, but she isn’t giving up hope in honor of her son, and husband who she says ‘lead’ the search prior to his passing.

I just learned of this case and came here immediately to learn more. Based on what I’ve read so far, it seems most plausible that he took a drug, or someone slipped him a drug, that ended up killing him at the end of the night after almost everyone had left. An adult who remained at the party when he passed, drove the car and body far away with an accomplice following them. After disposing the car and body in water, both were able to return to Linwood before the parents realized he hadn’t come home. So if he was actually last seen at 2:05…they had about 3 1/2 hours to do this. So he would be no more than 1 to 1 1/2 hours away.

As someone who went to these types of parties during that time with complicit adults involved, I can picture this exact scenario. I don’t think any of the teenagers knew what happened. Adults covered up his (accidental) death to avoid getting into trouble for serving minors.

The older friend who had been with him earlier probably knew he had taken something and drove by the house out of concern to see if he had made it home.

I think the same as you but how easy it is to get rid of a body just like that and forget what happened. Of course they would be arrested if it was known that they led a minor to consume alcohol and drugs... what a terrible party full of drug addicted alcoholic people sick, etc... but randy went of his own free will, although being a minor he is always influenced... his father describes him as determined and enterprising but in an environment full of drugs and alcohol, perhaps he did not want to be less and let himself go... he is It's hard to know what really happened to him.
rest in peace randy
