I didn't know he was a professor or her boyfriend.

I don't think the watermelon was any relation;) but I heard about this murder last night on the local news. Didn't know it was going to be national news today, but leave it to JVM to mutilate an innocent watermelon for effect!

Vashti's Mother, Julie Hostetler, begged Vashti to not serve Brett with divorce papers just yet.
She knew Brett would have a strong reaction, it seems

She wanted Vashti to get safely away first, to get Brett acclimated to the idea of separation. Two months before, the Mother was so worried. I guess she had a sense or premonition that this could get dangerous and ugly. She had her prayer group of women praying for Vashti.

Vashti said she didn't think he would do anything if he had the boys around.

I was ROFLMAO.

But what really struck me as crazy was the lady before that , that used the guy as a guine pig and had him on the ground as she pretended to stomp him in the throat with her heels. She almost lost her balance and would have put her whole weight onto his throat if she slipped. That was outright dangerous and there is no way that guy should have let her demonstrate that because she was not stable during the reinactment, and she came pretty close to giving him a serious injury.

I am not sure I buy self defense in this case or not. It seems she must have got the first few blows in before the guy knew what was happening. Im just guessing, but think she may have attacked him when he was not looking.

This is a good NG Show and she's letting her guests talk. The guests are Vashti's own Mother and her Brother. How sad the story.

Her Mom is beautifully describing how the relationship, and Brett changed over time.

My opinion, the enactments I catch when I'm multi-tasking make me stop, and my mouth drops open. I caught a bit of that, and yes, my mouth dropped open. It was so awkward, but lately everybody on tv wants to do an enactment...kinda makes you wonder if they're just a bunch of actor or murder wanna-bes.

A friend of Vashti's spoke of her as having a light that was Vashti, but when she was with Brett her light just seemed dimmed and not as bright.

Oh shoot, I missed it. I hope they have transcripts later.

Waternelon Murder! I look up to see JVM with an evil grin stabbing a watermelon with a high heel shoe.

I'm going to have bad dreams about it. :scared:

so tired of everyone trying to blame something for evil. Brett. just. wanted. her. dead. (watching HLN - Dr. Drew).

I missed the verdict live, but I am very pleased with this jury and very relieved that it is over for Vashti's family and friends. God bless them all and give them some sense of peace.

Vashti's niece is saying they have, as a family, discussed letting the boys visit Brett in prison once they are older and if they want to visit him. At 2 and 4 yrs old, wonder if those boys will remember what happened that night. Sometimes it's worse not to be able to remember the things that damaged us. Vashti's family is going to be able to help those boys, and Vashti would be relieved her family is there for them.

I think they will. Tank god their 'father' will be in jail when that happens. Susan Powell's children weren't so fortunate. When they started recalling what happened to their mamma, their 'father' murdered both of them :(

Uh oh, self-defense! I smell Jodi Arias...I agree, if the guy was attacking her first how on earth would she be able to subdue him with a high heel? Is there a thread on this case yet? If not we need to start one!

Watching Vashti's Mom and Brother on NG again. Yes, it's such a comfort to know those two little boys are in good hands. (the Powell case broke my heart too)

Thank You Kansas Jurors for seeing this through to Justice. The Judge was great and there was no nonsense in this trial.

Here's what I found about that other case that has nothing to do with a watermelon:

Professor killed by woman with stiletto heel, police

I've got a bit of catching up to do, but how wonderful to come home after a carp day at work to find a lovely guilty verdict from BS. Yay to the jury. Thinking of Vasti's boys.

per HLN:

The convicted murderer is now facing life in prison, but it will be up to Judge Larry Solomon as to whether Seacat will ever be eligible for parole.

Solomon will sentence Seacat to life in prison withour parole or life in prison with the possiblity of parole after 50 years.

Seacat will be 87 years old before he could possibly be up for parole.

Solomon scheduled Seacat's sentencing for August 5.

He reminds me of Neil Enwhistle....another smug, arrogant wife murderer. There are soooo many of them. :(

Does anyone remember that trial? NE shot his wife as she held their baby.

I watched and blogged the whole trial with a friend. I was the prosecution, she was the defense! At the end, after he was led off, his parents went on the Telly and blasted the American justice system, saying his wife, Rachel had been depressed and killed herself and baby Lily.

Does that remind anyone of this case?

RIP Vashti. I hope this equates to some kind of justice somewhere and I hope time is kind to your lovelies...I hope they remember your love if nothing else. :(

Thank You Friend.............

If I have a present murder case where do I go?

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking Irisha? Are you trying to find a thread or start one?

I don't know how to start a thread so maybe someone who knows can help :) ?
