7/18/24 Update: Joseph Lawson appeared by video for court today. His attorneys & the prosecutor were present in the courtroom. This was status conference, which gave the attorneys the chance to talk & then update the judge. Nelson Circuit Judge Charles Simms III was to hear Joseph Lawson’s motion to separate his trial from that of co-defendants Brooks Houck & his father, Steve Lawson. The attorneys agreed to delay hearing the motion to separate Joseph Lawson’s trial from his co-defendants until 8/8/24. On that date, Joseph Lawson’s father, Steve Lawson will advise the court of his decision of whether to allow or disallow his statements to investigators that were made while they were offering him an immunity agreement. According to Kentucky Rules of Evidence, statements made by a defendant during discussions regarding immunity or other plea agreement are only admissible in court if the defendant allows them to be used in court. Judge Simms said that Steve Lawson will enter his decision at the 8/8/24 hearing. That decision is likely to impact the other co-defendants’ arguments for separate trials. Judge Simms has yet to rule on a motion for a change of venue for the trial, which is anticipated to take place next year. The prosecutors & defense attorneys have agreed on a new venue at the Christian County justice center in Hopkinsville. Next court date will be 8/8/24 for Joseph & Steve Lawson will appear together for that one.
7/20/24 Update: Houck: Nancy Grace episode in which Houck spoke with Nancy on HLN has been entered into evidence.
8/8/24 Update: Steve Lawson just fired his attorney Ted Lavit, accusing him of working with Brooks Houck’s attorneys behind his back. Lawson told the judge his counsel has been ineffective & he wants a public defender. The prosecutor echoed his concerns, saying “I don’t know what’s going on here. It’s disturbing.” In response, Ted Lavit said “I have done my best without any conflict whatsoever.” The judge ended court, asking for a public defender to be here in 2 weeks to represent Steve Lawson. Next court date set for 8/22/24 at 1:30pm.

CRYSTAL ROGERS CASE: Steve Lawson and Joseph Lawson are expected in court in Nelson County this afternoon. Here’s what I’ll be watching for:
▪️
Steve Lawson’s new attorney; the judge is expecting this attorney to be at the hearing and confirm they will be ready for trial 6 months from now. Seems to be a big ask, considering Brooks Houck’s team of attorneys requested at least a year to build his defense (that was back at the end of 2023)
▪️
Trial consolidation decision; the judge has been waiting for word from Steve Lawson’s team on evidence and if he will waive what’s called “evidentiary protection”. If he does the prosecutor can include comments he made during police interviews and the other two defendants will push for separate trials. If he does not, the comments won’t be included and the judge may decide to consolidate the trials to one.
▪️
Venue decision; we still don’t know where this trial will be held. The judge wasn’t impressed with the attorneys’ choice of Christian County.

Judge Simms said with three people in jail it's important for him to get the trial started on time.
The next court date is scheduled for October 4 at 9 a.m.

Since I can not access this article - stupid EU rules - is the next hearing for ALL of them or ??
TIA! :)

and can you or someone give a 10% synopsis on the article?? :D Thanks!

Anyone know what happened to this guy?

Not charged (yet) in Crystal’s case - KY – Crystal Maria Rogers (35) (reported missing July 3, 2015; car (with flat tire) was found (July 5, 2015) on Bluegrass Parkway near mile marker 14 with keys in ignition & her belongings (phone & purse) in car, Bardstown) - *Danny Singleton (60/now 61) indicted (Dec, 2023) & charged (9/12/23) with 38 counts of 1st degree perjury to the grand jury (12/16/15). Plead not guilty. Bond $200K. Nelson County #15CR00341
9/12/23 Update: Police say Danny Singleton lied to a grand jury when he testified about Rogers' disappearance. Singleton appeared before a judge this morning, where a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. Singleton was given a public defender, who may not be his actual attorney in the long run. The attorney said she may have a conflict of interest, that she plans to disclose to the judge and the Commonwealth's Attorney. Singleton worked for Brooks Houck, Rogers' longtime boyfriend & the only suspect in her disappearance last summer. He was indicted in December on 38 counts of perjury. The public defender asked that Singleton's bond of $200K be lowered, but the Commonwealth objected, saying he is a flight risk. This is the second time someone connected to Houck has come under police fire recently. Houck's brother, a former Bardstown police officer, was fired from the department in October.

Defendant Steve Lawson has new attorneys.

Judge Simms is still pressing for the February trial date.

New attorneys don't think they can be ready for trial in 6 months, given the vast amount of discovery in the case.

Judge has not yet ruled on whether to separate the trial nor on venue.

Next court date: October 4 at 9 am but didn't indicate what/whom it's for.
