BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WDRB) – A Nelson County judge confirmed on Friday that the trial or trials of Brooks Houck and his two-codefendants for the murder of Crystal Rogers will be held in either Warren or Christian counties likely next year.

It is still unknown if the men will be tried together or separate.

The men are scheduled to be tried on Feb. 10, 2025, but Steve Lawson just acquired new attorneys who have hinted that they will likely file a motion to delay the trial, given the amount of evidence in the case.

The next hearing scheduled has been set for Oct. 25.

But thanks for the next court date - is that for ALL or just the Lawsons? No decision I guess on separate trials? Anything else pertinent in the article? TIA! :)

-- In March, prosecutor, SY, agreed w/a motion filed by attorneys for Houck, JL and SL that there has been too much publicity, since CR disappeared in 2015 to find an unbiased jury in Nelson County.

-- They are looking outside the Louisville and Lexington media markets at counties "demographically" similar to Nelson.

-- One of those two locations, will be chosen, said Judge CS III. The judge will release an order quickly on with county he decides on.

-- In addition, an attorney for SL, DW, said he will opt to have several statements made by his client to investigators excluded at trial.

-- Nonetheless, the judge already ruled that some of SL's statement to investigators as well as his testimony in front of the grand jury will be allowed to be used during his trial.

-- The men are scheduled to be tried on Feb. 10, 2025, however, SL just acquired new attorneys who have hinted that they will likely file a motion to delay the trial, given the amount of evidence in the case.

-- Additionally, judge ruled on Friday that SL's former attorney, TL, must turn over the entire case file to DW (SL’s attorney) within the next two weeks. Otherwise, he could be held in contempt of court.

-- JL, 32, pleaded not guilty in September to criminal conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence in the CR case. He is not charged with CRs' murder, but prosecutors instead charged him with conspiracy, meaning they believe he was involved in some fashion with whomever killed CR. Maxi sentence for the conspiracy charge is 10-20 years in prison.

I can not access this article - it seems by the small bit I can read - that the Judge put the trial in Warren County?? Yes?

Brooks Houck, Steve Lawson and Joseph Lawson—have agreed to a transfer of venue to Warren County instead. The idea of it coming to Christian ...

I just watched the documentary on Peacock. The boyfriend is suspect for sure! I believe that all the murders that have happened in that town are all related somehow. The brother of the boyfriend who was a police officer at the time was also suspect. I believe he was trying to help his brother cover up the mess he made.
You need to read all the threads here. There is so much more. Her Dad was shot and killed when he was out searching for her remains. It really has been quite the case. MOO

Ooh if looks could kill!
Who is the subject of his glare, his ex attorney or someone on the prosection team?

It might not have been as bad for him if he had come forward right after he helped dispose of her body But it's hard to have sympathy for him or for his son when their silence contributed to Tommy's death, caused the Ballard family so much grief and suffering, and allowed Houck to remain free.

BARDSTOWN, Ky. — A Nelson County judge has determined the Crystal Rogers murder trial will take place in Warren County. The county seat is Bowling Green.

The trial is expected to start in early Feb. 2025. Lawyers for each of the three defendants, Brooks Houck, Joseph Lawson and Steven Lawson, are preparing their arguments.

Sixteen months after Rogers’ disappearance, her father Tommy Ballard, was killed too.

Additional details in the case revealed this past summer allege that Houck asked Stephen Lawson to “point him in the direction,” of someone who could “kill Crystal Rogers,” and that he “wanted his wife gone.”

Does this mean that no one talked since all 3 are proceeding to trial?

I thought it was the former attorney. That’s the way the article set it up anyway.
