Bivens said he was notified of the incident around 7:20 Wednesday morning, when it was discovered that Goodwin was gone along with a vehicle. Goodwin is thought to have left his home in a black 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, extended cab pick-up truck.

Reasons behind Goodwin’s disappearance are currently unclear, though Bivens suspects the incident may be attributed to a rebellious teenager.

A ‘be on the look out” alert as been issued on the missing truck, and efforts to locate Goodwin via his cellphone have been employed.

“We do know he was at a local gas station around 5:15 (Wednesday) morning.”

There are reports of people seeing Goodwin riding a four-wheeler Wednesday evening.

Goodwin is 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 165 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes, he was last seen wearing a black shirt, jeans, and brown pull-on boots.

Bivens arrived at the scene with Deputy Bryon Walker and the two found Goodwin’s body 15 feet from the truck, lying in the field. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Goodwin suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound from a .22-caliber handgun. Bivens said Goodwin had procured the firearm from Gayheart’s residence.

Goodwin’s death was consistent with a message he had sent to Gayheart shortly after he left her home on Wednesday.

According to Bivens, Goodwin had a difficult life, having lost both of his parents when he was younger.

“He’s had a lot of tragedy in his life,” Bivens said.
