I had to leave due to an appointment at 2:00 so set the DVR and watched the prosecution when I came home. That prosecutor is a first class B. Just about as bad as Joan Harmon.

What/who was the judge glaring at when Martin got back to his seat at the defense table? I have nothing to do the rest of the week so will be here watching.

I hope Joan Harmon is still around and quaking in her boots about this testimony today. DO we think she is still being investigating for her part?
I think the judge was quite possibly glaring at Martin who was laughing when he returned to the defense table.

A murder trial for three dead people is no place to be laughing…especially the defendant.

I agree. And, listening to the Court TV comments afterward, it seems Martin was wearing new shoes and they were noisy (squeaked with every step). IIRC she said the defense attorneys were laughing. AND... she thought some jury members didn't appreciate the laughter, either.

But, the sound of his footsteps were quite loud on replay (I didn't catch it live).

I don't remember the last time I saw a defendant taking the stand before the Mollie Tibbetts trial. Now I've seen two in the last month or so.

I have seen several…it usually doesn’t end well for them. Jeffrey Willis is the last one before Rivera that comes to mind.

Right. Always risky for defendant to take the stand for that reason (usually doesn't end well).

I think I might do a quick google to find a list of defendants who testified in court and were acquitted.

This trial is weird. Something is not right.
If he didn't do it, then who did? His alibi was that he was with her...so she didn't do it either?
She and son plead the 5th but no one can say that?
The only person I can think of who would be in a car with the 2 of 3 victims is her.
weird
She was already married the whole time?
Said her son's father was dead before he was born but then wasn't?
Abuses a dog?
Pleads the 5th...for what?

And he has security info at his house that he shouldn't?

They're both sketchy.
His alibi was that he was with his fiancé. He was arguing that his ex-wife did it.

My thought is they(def team) made fun of him squeaking in his new shoes but it wasn't shared to the whole room. So it came across as inappropriate to some.

Vinny's opinion (among others on Court TV)

And, jmo but I agree with Steve Greenberg's thinking regarding the way the defense attorney asked questions.

Were they laughing at his ridiculous shoes?

So - did the defense rest after Martin's testimony?? No one has mentioned this....

I’ve had several that were acquitted. I had two that were convicted.

The investigation into Joan Harmon, if it occurs at all, won’t start until Kit Martin is acquitted. However, I highly doubt the State of Kentucky or Christian County is going to make any effort to investigate her. (If they had, wouldn’t the State have introduced the evidence to exclude her as a suspect, leaving only the guy whose 45 shell casing shot from his gun and dog tag was found at the scene of the crime.). They are not going to risk exposing the possibility that they kept an innocent man in a cage for 769 days and allowed him to stand trial when he was pointing the finger at the woman who dropped Pam’s cell phone off at the AT&T store, while allowing her to be free for the past six years and make good on her threat to ruin his life. They would have to admit they screwed up. They aren’t going to do that.

I believe so. They were going over jury instructions after the jury was dismissed. We don’t know if there will be a rebuttal yet, if not, closings expected today.

The defense has now rested its case in the Pembroke triple-murder trial against Christian “Kit” Martin, following testimony from Martin himself Tuesday afternoon.
[.....]
With the defense resting its case, the jury will receive their instructions when they return to the court room Wednesday morning, and then will hear closing statements from both the defense and the prosecution.

'Just my thoughts before closing.

Even with Martin's overly talkative and sometimes rambling testimony, I think it was a good decision for him to take the stand. The evidence presented is circumstantial and even some of that evidence seems "off" (ie: shell casing, dog tag, security cam footage). It took a long time to charge him and (even without Covid delay) the case still should have had more "oompf" and a more direct path.

I always, always express my heebee-geebees regarding jury trials. I've served as a juror on several cases (though none were murder). So, here I go once again... jurors make me nervous. It's a right as an American and I'm glad we have it but... jury trials are a crap shoot.
