This is one of those cases that will forever haunt me. I cringe when seeing all the kids running around, sometimes going back and forth to the concession stand, while their parents sit on the bleachers watching a ball game. Back in the day, there was even a playground behind the bleachers where the younger kids would go play away from the parents.

Glad that he finally pleaded guilty to the kidnapping and murder. Is this Alford plea already agreed upon before he admitted guilt or can the prosecutor or Judge not accept it and demand a trial?

Why wait a whole two whole months before the sentencing? What's to stop him from committing suicide or something?

He's admitted his guilt in two charges, and admitted that he knows there's enough evidence to convict him of the other two, so he is now guilty in the eyes of the law and of the People of the State of Kentucky.
If he wants to pronounce his own sentence of death, I say, let him. The State of Kentucky won't have to house, feed, clothe, guard, and give him free medical care for the next however many years.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.

I remember as a child, playing in the playground while my family was in the car watching a movie at the drive-in. We used to run around the entire area.

Was it safer then?

Not sure, pedophiles existed and preyed on children. I do think that fewer kids may have been killed because there was not the fear of prison for life and an offender registry.

In another thread here, the little girl, Dulce Alavez, whose mother was in the car and helping her sister with homework when she disappeared at a playground. Grant it, these kids were very young but I think we were on the loose at an early age also. I remember my family "not watching" us the way I watch my kids. In fact, in summer, I think were not even allowed in the house on nice days except at lunch, dinner and after-dark.

I remember that too. We would have on our pajamas and go to sleep in the car when we got tired.
At one drive-in where the playground was in the front near the movie screen, they even had monkeys in cages for us to look at. It was nowhere near our parked car which was close to the concession stand.
But, back then the population wasn't near as big. I checked that out and found that our population has more than doubled since 1950.

And so has our fear.

8/24/19 Update: plead guilty to her murder and kidnapping and entered an Alford plea for rape and sodomy. Additionally entered what is called an Alford plea, to counts two & three which means that he agreed that the Commonwealth had enough evidence to convict him, but he did not agree that he committed the act of count two & three which is the rape & the sodomy charges. Sentencing is scheduled for October 23. The plea proposes a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Just some perspective here. There was was never a trial in Gabbi Doolin’s case - so prosecutors are essentially presenting all of their evidence now during sentencing in an effort to get the harsher possible sentence for Timothy Madden.

Timothy Madden’s sentencing is now in recess for a lunch break. In the past hour we heard testimony from the forensic analyst who found DNA matching Madden on Doolin’s body.

If you’re following along with the Gabbi Doolin case. I’m choosing not to Tweet out details of what’s being discussed in court right now related to her rape. It’s too graphic, and to be honest no one really needs to know these details aside from those choosing to listen in court

Eventually KSP were told by a number of people that Timothy Madden had been acting suspicious at the football game. Loitering around the restroom and talking to young children.

Investigators arrived at Timothy Madden’s house. He told them he had played “hide and seek” with Gabbi that night but didn’t admit to killing or raping her. Eventually investigators retrieved his jeans and jacket which both had blood on them.

Testimony in Timothy Madden sentencing hearing has finished. We are now moving on to victim impact statements and will more than likely hear from Gabbi’s mom, Amy.

Gabbi Doolin’s dad, overcome with emotion erupts in anger directly addressing Timothy Madden “You can let him listen to what she needs to say! I’m sick of this! He can give her three minutes to say what she needs to say!” I can’t say I ever seen anything like this in court.

“We’ve had 4 years, give her 3 minutes,” Gabbi’s Dad Brian Doolin just yelled at Timothy Madden during his wife Amy’s victim impact statement. Both Doolin/Madden family members have been escorted out of the courtroom. The hearing is now in recess.

Gabbi's parents have had to wait delay after delay after delay for this, after the brutal rape and murder of their little girl. I can understand them for agreeing to go for LWOP and not the DP which would have been appeal after appeal, dealing with court after court and having to look at this monster.
